way too sloppily played to be the best ever, but a great game nonetheless. [/ QUOTE ] I disagree outside of the Bush Lateral and the muffed punt the game was pretty well played. |

Miami 31 Nebraska 30 in the 1984 Orange Bowl. [/ QUOTE ] Winner. A close second is Nebraska 168 Florida -4 in 1995. |

[/ QUOTE ] I dunno. The missed extra point was awful. There was a missed field goal, a couple of fumbles, some stupid penalties, bad timeout usage, etc. The drama was excellent as far as the back and forth scoring and excitement, but the game wasn't exactly crisp. |

Na, the game had alot of sloppiness and alot of poor officiating. A great geame yes, the greatest all time? No way. [/ QUOTE ] First part cannot be correct. Very few penalties, only 3 turnovers. No boneheadedly blown assignments. This was a tightly played game. Latter is a matter of opinion, but the strong individual performances, its close nature, the fact that it didn't rest solely on one play, and that it was either teams game, make it one of the best in my book. If they play 10 times, each team wins 5. The best CF game of all time, I'll vouch for it. I'm sure people will contest my saying it didn't rest on one play. Bush's failed pitch? TX interception? Stopping Lendale on the 4th and 2? 4th and 5 run by Vince? No, the game certainly didn't rest on one play. |

[/ QUOTE ] What made it great was that you saw a nearly incomparable individual performance, as well as stellar performances from guys you probably wouldn't recognize unless you were a fanatical college football fan. I guessed there may be as many as 10 first-round NFL draft picks that come out of this game. After tonight, many people could name half of them, and the fanatics could name the other half. Greatest college football game ever, eh?? Top 5 for sure. |

I loved watching Dorsey and Leinart get knocked off their pedestals. [/ QUOTE ] Didn't seem to me that Leinart had too much problem getting right back on. |

No, but it was a very solid game. 9.5 out of 10.

I really don't think Miami-OSU was up to this game's level. The result of that literally hinged on one questionable call. This game had a few (relatively few IMO), but the game didn't hinge on those no more than it did on any other possesion.

[/ QUOTE ] One thing I was glad about.. at least after screwing up Vince's first TD run, the officiating staff reviewed plays that may have seen obvious, even at full speed, just to make sure they didn't miss something. They realized how big a mistake it would be to screw up another in such a big game. |
