Went sweating for awhile.
Barry is absolutely insane today and has a MONSTER stack. Would like to see Colson or Jason S. take it down. 14 left when I had to bail.... |

BTW, I wish I even had a decent story to tell about this tourney. Hassan Habib kicked my weak-tight ass badly on day one..... meh.

down to 10 and going to dinner - carl's last in chips with 390k, but blinds are apparently still 8k/16k. He's a double up away from 2nd place. The draw has Barry on his left and 2nd place two to his right, so not exactly optimal for stealing, but optimal if he starts picking up cards. |

I think Carl should offer a 10 way chop. Given the payout structure, I think only Barry probably wouldn't seriously consider that if it was allowed!

The payout structure is indeed retarded.

What would a TV tournament be without 1 Millllion Dollars for Vince to crow about, when "their tournament life is at stake". With a 5K buy in and 500 players, it has to be retarded to meet the $1M threshold.
Interesting how many players are right around 400K - 40% of the field. |

This is a really exciting thread! Sucks about the asanine payout structure though. Will the tournament wrap up tonight, or stop when we get to the FT?

It stops when they get down to 6 players.

I don't really understand this play from the perspective of either player. It appears that both players had 570K size stacks with 8/16/3K structure.
Jason Stern raised to 48k from middle position and Kevin Song called from the button. The flop came K53r and both players checked. The turn came 8r and Stern checked to Song who bet 70k. Stern called and the river came Tr Stern checked the river and Song bet 150k. Stern called the 150k and the players showed: Kevin Song A7o Jason Stern QQ I would generally bet out the flop if I was the preflop raiser, OOP, one other player in the hand, if I had the QQ with a K on the board and no str or flush draws. If it went check, check I think I would check/call all the way down as Stern did. Also Song didn't take the line I would have there, it seems the most likely hand for Stern to hold is middle pair, so how do you get him off that with a KT538r board when both players checked the flop and you are making half sized pot bets on turn and river? What am I missing? |
