Is it ever right to fold the smallest pocket pairs when you are first into the pot in EP? This is mostly for tight online games, NL$100+.

I'll try and knock out a couple of these:
[ QUOTE ] Havent entered the chat thread...what is its purpose and what type of posts are in there? [/ QUOTE ] It's a social thread. Shooting the [censored], bad beats, brags. Fellowship. Even if you have a wide circle of friends, chances are few, if any play poker seriously. And particularly if you play for a living it's an unusual occupation that almost nobody but other players "get". That's what the chat thread is for. [ QUOTE ] What is a value bet? [/ QUOTE ] A value bet is a bet when you may not have the best hand, but you are "ahead of his range" an usually have the best hand. For example, head's up limped pot, flop is 722 and it's checked to you and you have 66. You bet here for value because even though he could have a 7 or a better pocket pair, you usually have the best hand right now. [ QUOTE ] Is it ever right to fold the smallest pocket pairs when you are first into the pot in EP? This is mostly for tight online games, NL$100+. [/ QUOTE ] $100NL+ is not exactly n00b. I'd pretty much never fold them. You get too much value out of either open raising them and cbetting or set mining/trapping with them. |

someone help me identify situations where I can checkraise to isolate. Is this always committing a stack?
flop donk betting. any thoughts? I haven been noticing a tendency to play much more aggressively when oop than when in position. Not necessarily betting more, just more often. Is this a generally good trend? thx! |

[ QUOTE ]
One thing I am having a little trouble getting used to in NL is adjusting to calculating implied odds, whereas it seemed to be very easy in limit. It's probably a multi-pronged issue: 1) Doing the caculation quickly [/ QUOTE ] I'll just talk about part 1. The calculations are a little more cumbersome than in fixed limit, but you just need to be able to divide and multiply quickly. Don't need to be exact, just fast. Don't think in terms of the "to" form of odds, think in terms of the "for" form. I.e., 7-for-2, not 5-to-2. E.g., pot is $30 and there is a bet of $20 at you. At Poker Stars, it displays a pot of $50 and asks you to call $20. Calculate 50/20=2.5 and add 1 to get 3.5 (7-for-2). On Full Tilt it displays $30, $20, and asks you for $20. You calculate 30/20=1.5 plus 1 plus 1 = 3.5. When people have stacks bigger than yours and shove, you need to subtract off their excess bet first before doing the calculation. Then multiply the "for" odds by your outs. Suppose you believe you have 8 outs. Then you calculate 3.5 * 8 = 28. Now you compare this to the number of unknown cards, anywhere from 44 to 47. Getting paid enough implied odds would mean getting a size 16 to 19 additional bet into a size 28 pot (44 to 47 minus 28 = 16 to 19). Your judgment about your opponent and the situation should tell you how much you could get, and your risk of reverse implied odds. Gotta make sure the extra dough is in the opponent's stack too! If you end up 12-tabling you'll probably find you don't have time to calculate. You'll just be looking at the ratio of the pot to the size of bet that was made at you, and gauging this against the strength of your draw and your opponent's style. |

[/ QUOTE ] well for one i don't really play gutshots even with overs unless it's a small bet against a donk. aggressive isn't descriptive enough. is he tight? is he loose? tight/loose can both be equal to agg. |

MIKE KELLEY WROTE:
Agression factor used in unison with Fold TO CB% and CB% is a useful stat. What HUD do you use to get this stat? Can you get this stat w/in PT? |
