You are no good here 100% of the time. The bet on the flop was to protect a made hand, most likely 88 though it could be JhTh or some such. The only way he would bet in that spot with middle pair would be with a FD or combo of some sort. Either way he has you beat on the river, and quite badly. Just my $0.02
