I personally like this play at 1/2nl. I don't use it all that often, but it does work.
If, however, there is a 5/10nl reg sitting, I raise a lot wider range than aa/kk/ak. For ex, I'll pick two or three SCs and a one-gapper to add to limp/calling in EP and raise with them from LP.
I think that most live 1/2NLers are not able to narrow someone that w/t to AA/KK PF so I wouldn't worry about it too much. Even if they are, having a 50BB stack all of the time won't phase them stacking off with JJ or AK. Most of the time, the regs in my 1/2NL game have 250BB+.
