[ QUOTE ]
you yankees fans are aware that you're still down 2 games to 1, right? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, Cleveland is still a big favorite to win the series even pitching Byrd tonight. It's just that they're less of a favorite than if Sabathia were to pitch. Upgrading from Byrd to Carmona is worth having Sabathia pitch on short rest instead of full, and I am surprised Wedge isn't thinking this way. ProfessorBen, I really like your writeup, especially the "FPS" comment. Thanks. |

I'm curious how -EV in terms of getting to the World Series to pitch Byrd tonight - if I assume a Game 5.
If Byrd pitches tonight, Sabathia goes Wednesday, Carmona would go in Game 1, Westbrook Game 2, then you could come back with Sabathia on Monday for Game 3. If Sabathia goes tonight, and Carmona on Wednesday, that means Westbrook is opening the series, then Sabathia, then Carmona for Game 3. Seems pretty easy to start C.C. unless there are legitimate reasons to think that he wouldn't be effective on 3 days rest. |

I don't hate Paul Byrd, I just don't think it's the right play.

Someone explain what "canadian soldiers" means? [/ QUOTE ] I believe those are the bugs that infested Jacobs Field during the 8th inning on Friday. If the Yankees are losing by one late in the game tonight, maybe we will see a field full of rabid squirels swoop down from the foul poles. I assume the umps won't hold up the game since they are nothing more than a distraction. |

[ QUOTE ] I am rooting for the Yankees now. Pitching Byrd just reeks of looking forward to the ALCS. It isn't so much that CC is better than Byrd, it is just criminal not to give Carmona a shot in game five on full rest. Besides, I think the Sox match up better with NY than Cleveland, and it's more fun. [/ QUOTE ] 3 days rest just is such a gamble, even if its CC. Another option is to start Byrd, if he gets into trouble, put CC in, and start Fausto tomorrow. [/ QUOTE ] Right, but the idea is that both Carmona and CC are very very good. I am not going to quite call them equal, but they are both far better than anyone else the Indians could put in. So in one scenario we have Byrd / CC (full rest). In the other we have CC (short rest) / Carmona (full rest). I don't care if CC is overweight and delicate, scenario two has to give the Indians a better shot to win than scenario one. |

The Indians are actually 12-2 in games raided by rabid squirrels, dating back to 1908. |

I hate how everyone and the media is assuming a win is a lock for the Yanks tonight and Byrd is gonna get shelled.
I'll reverse jinx it just to be safe. Paul Byrd will throw a perfect game tonight, you heard it here first! |
