[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] I hated the Cosby show, but liked the people on it. It was just way over the top smarmy and too perfect for me. The "problems" these people had were on the whole amazingly bland and, as always quickly cured, and by the most loving and understanding parents possible on this or any world. The Cosby family made all other families look like sh*t, and redefined tension and problems into nothing at all. I remember reading once that watching the Cosby show made everyone else's life look like an utter failure, and I have to agree. The Cosbys were friggin pod people, and they gave me the creeps. [/ QUOTE ] This is part of the reason that at the time Roseanne was good. It came out at a time when Cosby ruled the airwaves as basically the anti-Cosby (in truth Married with Children was the first anti-Cosby, but nobody really even knew it existed at that point since Fox was the equivalent of UPN at the time) [/ QUOTE ] That's a big reason I loved Married with Children so much, and that I think most everybody who liked it did. It was the anti-Cosby, and we needed an anti-Cosby so, so much. |

I loved The Courtship of Eddie's Father. Hugely. Bill Bixby was an incredibly sympathetic actor. The dude had fantastic charisma. I found him incredibly watchable. I'm sure I'm not the only kid who wished his father were anything like that.

Small wonder. I went to H.S. with this prissy kiss ass.
BTW The Dukes of Hazzard is television perfection. How hard they stereotype southern hillbillies is (not so) subtle genus. |

(I might have taken Al Bundy, for that matter.) It's just that the show was so damn boring. It was tempting to watch a soap opera instead. Mr. Eddie's Father, indeed. |

King of the Hill didn't get funny until they added Kahn as Hank's neighbor. [/ QUOTE ] What was that...episode 4 of season 1? |

Mr. Belvedere [/ QUOTE ] Anything with Bob Uecker is comedy gold. Except for "Major League: Back to the Minors". But I blame that on Corbin Bersen and Ted McGinley. |

Mine was a stepdad who hated my guts. There was more than a little wish fulfillment going on in that show for me. I liked a little quiet fantasy. I looked forward to the show in a way I didn't dare let my parents catch on.
I agree with you on the Fat Albert show. That thing was awful. I didn't know any kid who liked it, and every kid I knew actually hated it. A combo of preachy, boring, and flat out stupid. |

How can people even mention the Simpsons or Seinfeld? Blasphemy.
Friends, somewhere in the 5-7 range, started getting more love-storyline related, which was annoying. By the 8th/9th season it was almost unwatchable. But the first few seasons were actually pretty funny, until the show got really popular with the 18-30 female demographic, and they switched it up. You need to look at who some shows appeal to. Boy Meets World and Saved By the Bell, both shows for pre-teens. Full House, a nice, warm, sappy family show. Family Matters I exclude for the sheer awesomeness of people. Everybody Loves Raymond and Three's Company both always had similar jokes and plots, but somehow maybe once each episode, you just had to burst out laughing. I'll second the nomination of Roseanne. Who were they trying to appeal to? All the same plots, Roseanne is damn annoying, John Goodman is fat, bad dialogue, etc. |
