What was the name of that FBI show about 3 years ago - it starred Jack's dead wife from 24. The mob boss was a nerdy dweeby kind of guy, his line every show, after he had someone killed was "well, that's that with that." On the side, he ran a whorehouse where every new girl, even his niece, had to be "broken in" by this guy. Anyone see it?

Anyway, I really liked that show, and I couldn't believe it got cancelled.

I cannot believe I forgot Clerks: The Cartoon despite the fact I own the DVD's. There's a Secret Diary of Desmond Pfeiffer joke in one of the 6 episodes!

Hi Roy:

The Prisoner. It ran its complete course but was only designed as a summer fill in.

best wishes,

This is clearly the right answer.

And I remember 'When Things were rotten', too, it was quite good, IIRR.

Harsh Realm is the only recent one I can think of.

Well, what counts as a season? It seems inconsistent to label a show that had 1 24 week run in the U.S as a 'one season show', yet label Fawlty Towers which had 2 * 6 weeks runs as a 'two season show'.

So, shows that had very few episodes and were great? Fawlty Towers and The Office stand out.

British comedy tends to be 6 shows a season. It's cos it tends to be written by 1 or 2 writers. Other examples: Red Dwarf, Blackadder, Only Fools and Horses.

Funny. As I scanned my memory the first show that fit the bill that came to mind was Hot L Baltimore. But I suspect I'd find it unwatchable/tedious now.

As an aside, the sit-com has yielded many watchable/entertaining/popular shows but so few gems, lamenting one that never found an audience seems kind of silly. Even that rare show that might be regarded as a signpost of the form (The Honeymooners, Mash, etc) can be easily dissed if you had a bad bowl of cereal.
