Piz: Just doing some detecting!

ski: No.

All: I think a lot of you guys are off the mark here. For example, sure, you can have a cream-cheese roll. But, in general, sushi is not made better by adding cheese or chocolate.

OP: Tons of savory stuff is better without cheese.

[ QUOTE ]

Anyone who puts cheese or chocolate on a steak, ought to be shot. I don't want any cheese or chocolate on my Honey Bunches of Oats and same thing for my oatmeal.

[/ QUOTE ]

Don't move to Philly. Also, chocolate in oatmeal can be good.

I don't think the original premise is that the chocolate or cheese has to be poured on top.

And for those who said no chocolate on watermelon... haven't you ever done fondue?

PoBoy,

Wait a sec. By "enhanced" do you mean "made better" or just that you can come up w/ some way to add cheese/chocolate to some preparation of the item?

If I say "tuna sashimi" can you come back and say that doesn't count because of a tuna melt?

PICKLES!!!

...are good in grilled cheese sandwiches. next.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm not sure that's quite fair either.

If you had a dill pickle in one hand and a chunk of cheese in another, would you take a bite of both and chew them up together? I wouldn't.

You may think pickles go well with your sandwich and cheese goes well with your sandwich, but that doesn't mean pickles and cheese go well together.

I like sandwiches with tomato slices, and with mustard. But although I've eaten many tomatoes just by themselves, I've never been the least bit tempted to put mustard on them. And I'm crazy in love with mustard.

Watermellon, Steak, Cereal, Oatmeal. Just a few off the top of my head.

[/ QUOTE ]

Huh?...I would eat any of the following:

-Watermellon sherbet with chocolate syrup
-Cheesesteak (that was too easy)
-Cocoa Puffs
-Oatmeal with chocolate chips

only one i can give you there is watermelon.

cheese obviously can go with steak, they often put chocolate flavor in cereals, and choco chips are good in oatmeal.

Perhaps you are right, but this response is fallacious RE: the OP. You can't just say: "Well I hate cheese on a hamburger so my answer is hamburgers." For pete's sake.

[/ QUOTE ]

Ok, let me put it this way: If someone were to come by my table and put cheese on my prime rib, I would be really pissed and so would 99% of other people. It's not the same thing as not liking cheese on a hamburger. It is not standard to put cheese on a steak.

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly. Cheese is a strong flavor and texture, and can be too dominant and overwhelm other flavors. And besides, some things taste so good just as themselves that you don't improve them by adding more stuff, but bring them down.
