I kind of think of them like this: Bad Beat: You get all your $$ in way ahead, and Villain sucks out Cooler: You get all your $$ in with an awesome hand but you were a dead man walking and didn't even know it, ie: set or straight over set, Quads over FH, ect... |

When I think of a bad beat I think of a guy sucking out in later rounds, and when I think of a cooler I think of a guy being behind the whole time.
