Just curious - technically speaking - whats the difference (if any) between a 'bad beat' and a 'cooler'? Or are they one and the same?

Great question, I was just thinking about that one the other day. I kind of think of them like this:

Bad Beat: You get all your $$ in way ahead, and Villain sucks out

Cooler: You get all your $$ in with an awesome hand but you were a dead man walking and didn't even know it, ie: set or straight over set, Quads over FH, ect...

When I think of a bad beat I think of a guy sucking out in later rounds, and when I think of a cooler I think of a guy being behind the whole time.

I was thinking it was something like that.. cooler being when you were drawing dead - or just way behind - but given villain and your reads you played the hand correctly...

bad beat if you´re all in on the flop and villain hits his 4 outer on the river...
cooler is for example set over set
