I'm still pretty much lost about how to play virtually any hand pre-flop once I get re-raised. It's clear that I am in bad shape against AA, KK, QQ, AK and a coin flip against JJ, TT, 99 and any other pairs getting good odds. However, it's invariably close to impossible for me to calculate these kinds of things quickly enough pre-flop to know whether I should call the raise or not given that I sometimes also have to weigh my read of the player a bit too. In this case, I had no read, but I had no idea whether I should call or fold.
Ultimate Bet No-Limit Hold'em, $.10 BB (9 handed) Hand History Converter Tool from FlopTurnRiver.com (Format: FlopTurnRiver) SB ($26.27) BB ($3.70) UTG ($4.66) Hero ($11.91) MP1 ($3.85) MP2 ($3.13) MP3 ($1.80) CO ($9.75) Button ($5.04) Preflop: Hero is UTG+1 with Q , A . 1 fold, Hero raises to $0.35, MP1 calls $0.35, MP2 raises to $1.55, 5 folds, Hero ? |

Even though a read is essential for those kind of decisions, this one is kinda easy...
You are playing .10 NL and someone with 30 bbs reraises in a possible squeeze spot. Get your money in asap!! |

Fold, you're out of position, and likely dominated.
Just bad luck, you ran into a good hand behind you. If mp2 does it again, pound on him. |

[/ QUOTE ] I don't play 10NL, any more much, but I disagree -- at this level people raise preflop with really good hands. Some are maniacs of course, with such a read, I agree with your line. |

My feeling was that it was more likely that I was dominated than not. When dominated I was a huge underdog and when not, at best I was usually just a coin flip.
However, I was getting very good odds to call the coin flips. So I had to weigh the odds of being dominated vs. the odds of not being dominated to calculate whether I was getting enough odds to call overall. Give me a pen and paper, some hand odds software, and a few minutes and I could probably make a decent guess as to whether I should call or not. However, on the fly these kinds of situations come up constantly and there just isn't enough time to calculate. |
