Default Arizona State Championship - Resteals against tight player

I'm down to $17k with the blinds 600-1200 with 50 ante, giving me an M of around 8. I've been playing tight since showing down one weak hand that cost me half my stack, but I'm looking to make a move. The 2004 state champ had been moved to my right a little while before and had generally played tight.

Folded to former champ, who makes it $4k from the CO. He has around 28k and seems a little frustrated. I've got pocket nines on the button, and I instantly push.

The next time around, same blind sizes, I'm the BB, he's the SB, I've got around 22k and he's got around 24k. Folded to him and he makes it 4k. It's his first steal attempt on my blinds. I check my cards and see K9o. I instantly push.

Too aggressive?

no; that's a standard raise for him with almost any two; you're ahead of his range.

I don't really like it, people's opening ranges from the sb are usually super tight and if he's getting frustrated you're going to get basically a snapcall from basically any hand.

Why the hell is the ante so small?

beats me. I think they wanted to simulate a deep stack tourney but still get rid of 430 out of 450 players first day.

Funny thing I thought was that the ante started at the 100/200 level at 25 and ends up being basically 1/20-1/30 of the BB the rest of the way.

And bigger antes would've gotten them down to 20 quicker
