Since you're in early position here, I'd try a limp or a miniraise to try to induce a push. Then you can safely call. The best-case scenario, of course, is if two or three are all-in in front of you.

I believe this is the correct forum for this post. OP is playing a Granny Mae and wants the zoo to know about it. I believe the accepted proper strategy is an all-in push.

Am I misreading something? Are we really playing Q5s?

Your preflop raise is perfect. With Q[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] you want some action, but not crowd. After you miss you check-raise attempt on the flop, go ahead and bet the turn--with your short stack you need to get more value out of this monster.

What happened on the flop and other streets? Don't tell me you checked it down. You can't afford to check strong hands like this. I like the raise preflop, but a limp/raise might have also worked if you felt the table was being somewhat aggressive.

Wow my posting skills suck. After the call preflop I knew I had him so I simply pushed the flop. He called with the quite weak A9.

Do I look like the kind of fool who would think that Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]5[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] is the nuts?

Sure you give up your edge preflop, but with hands like this your edge is almost as big post flop where you'll be able to get in far more money due to your preflop deception.
