Well, you said that to you it's pretty much standard. We can argue over semantics, but to me that's more or less the same thing as saying it's universal.

And I've worked for several corporations and I've definitely seen it happen. However, as The Diablo mentioned, it's simply another form of favoritism. The good old boy network is still alive and well.

It's not just sleeping with the boss though. Much more common is a kind of flirty relationship. It doesn't even have to be overt. Lots of women are skillful at creating just enough sexual tension to get what they want without going over the line, and they use it to their best advantage constantly.

Yes, I know some people sleep around to advance their careers. My comment isn't about that.

I was referring specifically to why the OP questioned whether the women in his office did it. His ONLY reason to suspect them was that they were hot. Nothing else:

In most situations it is more advantageous to someone's career to be someone who goes out with the boss and pick up chicks to nail rather than be someone who the boss nails.

Either of those, of course, are often far more advantageous than simply displaying stellar performance at the job.

This statement sounded more like wishful thinking/fantasizing than accusatory to me.

There are some other reasons why people who are successfull tend to be attractive.

First attractive people get more opportunities whether or not they purposely use their sexuality.

Second, many people are attractive because they put a lot of work and effort into keeping in shape, grooming, and dressing nice. These same people tend to be achievement oriented and willing to work hard. The women in upper management tend to be hard working acheivement oriented people who take good care of themselves.
