As far as what to do tonight? I never have made a big deal out of my own birthday as it's just some arbitrary day...I'd do whatever sounds like the most actual fun. If fun is running around outside twirling in circles, then do that. If you're running bad at poker, I would recommend NOT doing that, [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img].

My last birthday was on the same day that Party stopped allowing US players. I would suggest going out and having fun, rather than weeping softly in your bathtub like I did.

I agree with the "arbitrary day" thing, I was playing 20 tables at Stars on midnight New Year's Eve last year.

I called, and suggested we go for a drink or something. She said she's playing basketball tonight.

I think I played it really badly, as there was no clear way to communicate again... what do I do?

Call one more time in a couple days. Mention something specific/interesting/fun on the spur of the moment "omg I just drove by a mini-golf course earlier today and you popped into my head, let's go tomorrow." Or whatever.

As a quick phone guide:

1) Start off by assuming they know you. If her name is Amy speak as if it's perfectly normal for you to be calling "Hey Amy, what's up." This works infinitely better if you have a nickname for her already (always seed a nickname ASAP...to build a differentiating connection...it can be basic too like "kiddo" or "dreamer girl" or really anything).

2) Don't start off by asking her out. Have something interesting to mention that is spontaneous "I just walked back into work and I swear it's 'take your dog to work day' as I saw like 5 outside. Apparently our office didn't get the memo, totally rigged. But I bet you're a cat person anyway." I dno I just made that one up, it doesn't have to be uber cool just create a vibe.

3) Tell her you want to hang out. IMO a specific time is good and a low-key activity works well. This is ridic more easy if you've seeded an activity already in a previous conversation. But don't be afraid to use "drinks" or "coffee"...just make sure she knows you are interested in hanging out. You're not asking her, you are telling her. "I definitely want to hang out with you for drinks soon. Let's meet up tomorrow night at 7pm."

6) Talk some more after their answer. If she said she was busy at that time, no problem, but keep the vibe going so that you have the option of calling her back. If she says yes, keep going so she can continue to link a good vibe with meeting you (flaking is soooo common via a later phone call or text).

7) If she said yes just end by saying you look forward to getting the chance to talk more. If she said no tell her that you're busy the next couple days but will talk again soon.

Really just create any sort of semi-entertaining vibe. Being able to do this on the phone will help being able to do it irl as well, [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img].
