Default How bad is Atlantic City?

I've heard alot of bad things about Atlantic City: poverty, stricken area and really dirty, unsanitary rooms within the high rise casinos. I really want to go to the Trump Taj Mahal specifically to play poker, but I've heard it's very dirty and the chips stick together. And its supposedly unsafe to walk around on the boardwalk at night. Does the overall gambling experience outweigh the negative aspects of "America's Playground"?

Yes, if you like money. AC is dumpy in areas, and the Taj is a crap hole. What you have heard about the chips is also true.

Still, the poker play there is BAD. I strongly recommend either the Trop or the Borg, depending on what limits you play.

So are you saying that the Taj and the Trop are the best places to prey on weak opponents?

I went to AC when I was about 10, and we stayed in a hotel off the main strip. I've been scarred for life.

The boardwalk is safe all the time, just don't wander off it.

I personally think the negative posts are from either whiners or suburbanites. AC is a city with poverty, but the casinos are fine, and the area is being redeveloped. The Taj chips are worn, but they aren't that bad. I would use common sense in terms of walking around at off hours. Certainly during the summer, the boardwalk is safe until midnight.

AC is no Las Vegas, but the poker is great, and it isn't that bad.

FWIW, Its safer, cleaner and less poverty striken than the area around original Taj Mahal.

If you play 18hrs straight of poker and then at 3:30am get the urge to stretch your legs and wander down on to Atlatic Ave from the Taj -

Then it is your own fault!

The city has improved leaps and bounds since the stagnation of the 90s.

I'm sure you gets guys get a great urge when you drive in on RT30 from Absecon on a crystal clear night and see all the lights reflecting of the water!!!

Makes you feel good until you dump all your money!

Thanks4Cuming!

AC isnt horrible... There are really nice beaches about 2 minutes down the shore from the main strip of casinos and its a decently safe area. The only area i recommend you dont drive through is the town between the strip and the borgata. Use the highway because you feel like you wandered into a ghetto if you take the streets
