First Hand: With no information about the player I'm not sure what to tell you. He could have turned a straight, he could have a 3, possibly a 7, or could be on a bluff (I think it's incorrect to assume no complete bluffs). I think a flush is doubtful. You have to decide the likelihood of these possiblities based on how aggressive he has played in general and in other sb vs. bb confrontations post-flop.
BUT with all that said I might have just folded preflop. If I did call I probably would have checked the flop and then bet the turn. After his raise I would have jammed it instead of calling. Your hand is good but the turn was an ugly card and you are OOP (stacks are shallow so not too big of deal but still a negative).
Hand 2: Fold is good.
