I am sure we could figure out who CS-1 is based on:
"The affidavit is littered with references to CS-1. That's "confidential source one," further described as a 13-year NBA referee. Hmm ..." "Martino delivered money to CS-1 at various times as CS-1 traveled refereeing NBA games, including in January 2007 in Phoenix, March 2007 in Toronto, and April 2007 in Washington DC." |

KC / TSC - haha, oh... I actually made that joke based on Henry Abbot's "hmm..." comment. Perhaps if I used a more ridiculous picture of Bavetta it would've been clearer?
![]() I read through one of the affidavits, and Donaghy admitted specifically to providing picks to co-conspirators for games that he officiated. I think the NBA will not be able to hang with the "sure, he bet on these games, but that doesn't mean they weren't officiated fairly" argument anymore... -Al |

TSC,
Probably just protocol, or may have to do with when the document was written. If CS-1 isn't Donaghy, that'd mean a second ref was meeting with the gambling ring and gambled on games himself. There'd be a whole new [censored] on the NBA's hands. |

thats how I read it on the true hoop post, but I think I just misunderstood.
I am sort of hoping more people are involved because I want this [censored] to blow up in stupid Stern's face. |

TSC - it's probably because the affidavit where Donaghy is cited as "CS-1" is in support of arresting the 2 lower level mafia guys. Probably the case having to do with Donaghy specifically will refer to him as "Donaghy".
So with regard to "did Donaghy actually fix games?", the 2 mafia guys had this to say about Donaghy (I'm basically just following this stuff through TrueHoop, so my quotes are from there): [ QUOTE ] On page 7 of another document, an affidavit in support of arrest warrants for James Battista and Thomas Martino, FBI Special Agent Paul Harris writes that "CS-1" (an unidentified 13-year NBA referee said to have conspired with Battista and Martino) "compromised CS-1's objectivity as a referee because of CS-1's personal financial interest in the outcome of NBA games." [/ QUOTE ] Haha actually I was going to post that maybe that's why you thought CS-1 was another ref. At first I was kind of thinking the same thing... but I think the game might be too compromised if this thing is exposed as a ref gambling conspiracy, so now I hope no one but Donaghy was involved. -Al |

It didn't strike me as a distinction he was making. He seemed to be affirmatively saying what he had been told, bet on the NBA, including games he worked.
passed on information, including for games he worked. This is the formulation that he returned to when pressed, at the same time indicating that they hadn't closely reviewed the games he'd worked (doing so would have brought too many people in the loop). |

[/ QUOTE ] Hmm... I don't know if there is any good outcome. My personal feeling though is that Stern needs to address this like its the most critical thing ever and he needs to look into every possible descrepancy like his job depends on it. If not, he can look forward to an entire season of questions about any "controversial" call or ref issue. Right now his leagues credibility is greatly weakened, especially the already shakey reffing, and IMO he has done nothing to change this perception. Saying he thinks this is an isolated issue(which it course could be) isn't good enough. HE NEEDS TO PROVE ITS AN ISOLATED ISSUES. That may be impossible, but at least make us think you've explored every avenue and tried as hard as you can to prove that. |
