[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] The more incriminating parts of the story sound so absurd that there's little doubt they're mostly [censored]. He probably ran into the kids without causing serious injury, paid the guy off in the heat of the moment, and when the guy realized he was rich, he decided he would take it to whatever extremes he could to get more. [/ QUOTE ] I'd usually inclined to feel the same way that you do, but there's a bunch of stuff that makes me reluctant to dismiss it completely out of hand. - The guy seems to be identifiable, and running a legitimate business. Legitimate businessmen don't normally publicize their scams all over the net -- particularly not where you have US celebrities -- no matter how minor, involved. - The guy claims that it was related to a heroin smuggling plan. Again, an odd thing for a legit businessman to say. - Phil's old roomie, Trypwire, confirms his involvement in scamming, drug dealing, etc. during his Thailand days. - Foreign nationals tend not to get away with flying into the US to try and blackmail/extort celebrities in public places, and on their own turf -- at least not unless they've got some really juicy stuff. My guess is that Phil did a really bad thing at some time in his past, and now it's come back to haunt him. Whether that's killing kids, smuggling dope, sexing under-age Thai ladyboys or hiring a hitman I've no idea, but I'd bet money that there's something very shady at the back of all this -- or else why not see to it that this guy got the bum's rush at the WSOP instead of scooting off with his tail behind his legs? Surely someone with Laak's clout could make that happen in Vegas during the WSOP? [/ QUOTE ] I agree with you...I'm not sure if this story is 100% legit...but I do think Laak is hiding something. |

No one will ever know the whole truth.....With every said in any situation, there is always exageration - but there is usually some truth.
I always like to hear both sides of the story and then find a point in the middle. That is generally where the truth lies. This guy is pissed off and is telling us what happened from his side. He is far too public to be trying to extort phil for money... I dunno...I know that alot of you are Phil fans, as am I.... but this guys seems to be so random. I think its hard to lose sight of that.. There must be some truth to the matter...how much?? who knows..... My money is on a portion of the story. Phil [censored] up in Thailand...Someone helped him....They then decided to go to work together....Things went sour.....Phil made an empty threat to harm someone and that someone is taking an empty threat at face value and is trying to make more of it than what is real.....I wouldn't doubt phil screwed the guy in a business deal...Sucks, but it happens. Buddy is pissed and wants his money back...Phil feels liek he was taken and Phil likely made an off-color or threatening comment and now here we are!! Anyone else see it that way?? |

hey guys.. i live in thailand and have heard about phil laak's adventures in thailand before.. the murder for hire side of this story is one hundred percent true.. there is perhaps one small variation from the truth.. Laak's import business was far from being above board and legal.. it appears the guy that started all this is trying to tone down and not disclose the full extent of laak's criminal past.. probably because of mutual involvement in a criminal venture.. however that does blind us to fact that laak is not he appears to be in the present day..
the murder contract is a true story all the way.. the only reason it was not carried out was the american, laak sent the money to is an actual friend of the intended target and his thai wife.. other than that , laak would be involved in a conspiracy to commit multible murder. that my friends is serious stuff.. i am retired ex- cop that lives both in thailand and american.. i plan on returning to thailand and launching a investigation into these allegations.. from what i hear there are emails, taped telephone conversations, and wire tranfer documentation to affirm all of this.. i will post my findings... |

[/ QUOTE ] I'm not sure if it is different in Thailand, but in the US if I offer to give someone money to kill a person then I am guilty of conspiracy to attempt murder regardless of the outcome. The classic is when a person tries to hire a hitman to kill their spouse and the hitman is an undercover agent. If what you are saying is true then why wasn't their charges brought up for the attempt? |
