The likely truth imho:
Business fails, bad blood Situation is not resolved Plot thickening potential: Laak smashes kids in traffic accident. Laak tries to have guy and family killed. Wife of guy's health made substantially worse by Laak's action. Poker bot will arbitrate resolution.
