I'd love to see what the terms of his endorsement deal are. I'm trying to think of any other big-time endorser slamming his sponsor like this, and just can't do it.

Seriously. He was all decked out in his FullTilt Poker Sunday best at the final table, and when this is broadcast he will give everyone watching the impression that he plays online on FTP. The FullTilt player rep needs to have a little talk w/Jerry and explain the facts of sponsorship/endorsement to him.

When i made a TV final table, there was no talk of 'sponsorship' per se -- they basically just said "hey, here's some money to wear our stuff". I'm sure it's a little different b/c it's the main event so the commercial stakes are higher and what-not, but while FTP may not be happy that he's ambivalent about online poker to say the least, if his "sponsorship" was anything like mine, there was no expectation on the part of the site that he'd speak kindly of them (altho it's a bit of a bonehead move not to, LDO)

p.s. going rate for wearing a site's gear for one of the non-ME prelims that's gonna be on TV is 10K. Heard from a ME final-tablist that it was around 100K for the ME a couple yrs ago, with performance incentives that could take it to 500K+. That's just for wearing the gear, mind u, and i'm sure post-ME sponsorship will pay them a lot more.

teddy,

Weren't there all kinds of "agents" like Oliver Tse running around trying to sign these guys so they could negotiate sponsorship deals on their behalf? If the deals are complicated enough to warrant someone dedicated to working them out for you, its probably not just, "Here's money, wear this hat."

Or olivert could be a leach. I guess.

Teddy,

You did not have the genius of Oliver Tse represnting you, so perhaps Jerry got a much more fantastic deal!

There were the Poker Royalty guys who are a little smarmy (they're agents, so kind of expected), but the night before my final table, i went crazy calling every contact at every site that I'm an affiliate for, and managed to get ahold of someone nearly everywhere, and 10K was the going rate. Bodog had a floating sponsorship schedule, which was really convoluted, and some sites just said "we don't do sponsorships", but the reps at the other sites basically said they have arrangemnets with their peer sites (wage-fixing FTW!) to offer roughly the same: 10K. Poker Royalty offered me something a little better: 10K guaranteed, + more if i made the top 2, but they take a 20% cut, and since i was the shortstack, i figured more $ in my pocket up front was best, so i just took 10K from a site.

The 'agents' basically came right up to u after the final table was set and offered u their "services". If u had contacts at the various sites (like me), u could just do it yourself and not have them take a 20% cut, but i suppose if ur a complete n00b, and someone offers u 10K just to wear a shirt and hat, you'd jump at it. ONe guy at my table got 15K up front from a small, lesser-known site, but that was the highest.
Hellmuth (at my FT), was telling us that we should hold out for 50K, but pretty sure he didn't know what the marketplace was for non-name players. 10K was standard everywhere i talked to.
