I'm sure in some situations it's profitable, but it's really opponent dependant. If your calling for set value alone I don't think it's profitable against any decent player. You need to be CRing some flops, throwing in some pure bluffs etc to balance your OOP play.
I agree with you that its definitely +EV if you get a line on someones post flop play.
I'm generally folding or calling this pre (50/50), I don't see the value in 3 betting it unless opponent is really aggro on the button. In which case I might 3 bet 92o as well which has basically the same value as 2,2 anyway (depends on there 3 bet calling frequencies).
