UTG (45K) limps in, MP (26K) limps in.

Folded to me. I also limp, in "No set, no bet" mode.

SB mucks, BB (smallish, but can't recall) checks.

I've played with UTG on several occasions, and know him to be an aggressive player pre-flop, so his limp seemed suspicious.

MP is new to the table and BB is somewhat rockish. Not many hands played, generally has the goods when called.

Flop (3600) comes 2 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]4 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]9 [img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img]

UTG bets 5K, MP mucks.

I'm gonna raise him and see how serious he is. I'd be willing to bet he's still drawing to the flush and the flop bet is probably a semi-bluff. It also could be an overpair with a spade, given your previous suspicion.

The overbet (5000 into a 3600 pot) actually makes me lean toward him having the overpair or a 9, because it looks like he's trying to price out flush draws.

I seriously seriously doubt you're behind, and I think I wouldn't mind going to the felt here. Even if he has a made flush, which is very unlikely, you have a good, solid redraw. Raise to about 12,000. If he calls, he's on the flush draw. If he goes all in, I'm guessing it's an overpair with a spade. I call instantly.

Call. If he doesn't have a big flush it will make him very, very nervous and could buy you a free river card if you want it.

If another spade hits and he bets, fold. If he checks, bet.

Also if you can pair the board, do so.

When he has the flush - what does he do then? I will frequently overbet the pot with either a non-nut made flush - or the nut flush. The reason I overbet the pot with nut flush is because of the players with your mentality - "he bets so much because he doesn't have it - I'm gonna raise...."

Lacking any other info here, i call the flop.

spade turn--if he bets i fold unless getting a good price to draw. if he checks, i think it's an easy bet/fold to a raise.

non-spade turn--if he checks, i bet more than enough to price out a flush draw, if he check-raises then its a read situation. if he bets out turn i probably go to the felt here, but also somewhat read dependent.

How does he normally play postflop?

Well, to the river you have .65 equity if he has As Ad, and .34 equity if he has 6s 7s which are the only two types of hands I put villain on. If you repop the flop, I don’t see an aggressive villain laying down, you’re probably coinflipping against his range for your stack, and your pots odds are basically 1:1.

I like smooth calling also. Obviously if a spade spikes, you're done, but I don't think you can have both

You're right. If he has the flush, I'm having to hope to fill up to win. But I don't mind that because of how rarely he has the flush and how often I fill up.
