I've datamined a fair bit of Mike this week, and after several thousand hands I have him at about -4k, but obviously I've missed quite a bit. Though each time he has a stack of 6 or 8k he has dumped a couple of buy-ins to get there. Of course, playing more or less break-even poker is better than he usually plays.

There are a lot of good black basketball players.
There are a lot of good russian hockey players.
There are a lot of good Asian video game players.
There are a lot of good Jewish poker players.

Are any of these statements a) invalid, b) racist c) prejudiced in any way?

I played with Mike in the 25/50 game for about 300 hands.

He dropped 3.5 buy ins.

This just in: He is still trash.

id say he just needs to spend some time with pokertracker, supersystems % tables, and the pokerstove/cardplayer hand matchup program
why do you think TOP would do much for him? i think he understands the theory instinctively, just not the underlying math? i dont remember much math from TOP, just the extrapolation of math into the general theory

essentially the primary principle and the game theory section are what held lasting value for me personally, maybe i should reread it also!

Well, I played with him last night at the 10-20 tables, and he was playing great. very TAG at the 6max games and winning big. I kept waiting for him to blow up, but it never happened... oh well.

Just a frustrated observation that suddenly religion (and noting that someone is Jewish is a reference to a religion) is being injected into poker discussions. I am not offended or angry or pi**ed off or anything else. I just believe that there is no reason to bring religion into poker. I do not see any relationship between any religion and poker. I have not seen any discussion of Catholic, Unitarian, Shinto (sp) or Hindu players so I am perplexed as to why a players religous background is now a hot topic of discussion.

Besides, just to satisfy my curiosity, would you care to expand on your comment of "there are a lot of good Jewish poker players" with additional information such as: a definition of good, a list of players who are Jewish (and how you know this - just because the last name may be Schwartz or Cohen doesn't count), a analysis of what percentage of good players are Jewish relative to the percentage of Jews in the general population and explain the relationship between being Jewish and being a good poker player.

Ansky, while I respect your posts in the MTT forum and your hand analysis ability, I don't understand what the above post is trying to prove and I don't believe how much time I am spending getting involved in these discussions.

My point is that people make blatent generalizations about races and religions all the time that aren't necessarily harmful. As a Jew I was not offended by whoever said that stu ungar- matusow comparison. If you were to break down the demographics of winning poker players, I imagine a higher percentage of Jews are winning players than losing players than many other ethnic groups. It's for the same reason that Jews tend to be well educated, and tend to do well for themselves. Having a good family background, and an inclination towards education would logically lead someone towards making themselves a better poker player. Is anything I have said off base?
