[ QUOTE ]
I don't think that the hostess is qualified to enter into an agreement on behalf of the establishment. If I were the owner I would have said "Oh my hostess told you we sing happy birthday here?" Dad: Yes Me: One moment please *Brings hostess over* Me: Did you tell this man that we would sing his child happy birthday? Host: Yes Me: You're fired. We'll mail you your check. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, this is totally fair, considering that they had recently changed the "Happy birthday" policy, but had never bothered to inform the hostess of this fact. |

[/ QUOTE ] wow, that is harsh. just inform the hostess that they do not sing happy birthday and if she is unsure of any policies in the future, she should refer the question to the owner/shift manager/whoever. obviously, if she keeps making stupid mistakes she should be canned. |

it doesnt matter tuq, the guy is trying to change the ambience of his restaurant, which is tough enough to do, if he loses a bunch of uptight ninnies, its not that big of a deal in the long run if the change in style brings more people in. Its short term vs long term thinking....kind of like worrying about results in poker. Yes, the hostess should have known the policy, and it sucks that she didnt, but too bad. If you are going to stop frequenting a restaurnt because of something like this, Im going to make an assumption your raising a spoiled little brat. [/ QUOTE ] I can see what you're saying. What I'm saying is that singing it ONCE since it was wrongly promised to them >>> risking the collateral damage of losing several customers. Then again you run restaurants, I don't, so I may be wrong about this. Also, I totally agree w/Hopeless that the general disdain towards six-year-olds is affecting the tone of this thread. Words like "spoiled", "bratty", etc. are flying around when the kid may be nothing of the sort. |

[ QUOTE ] Maybe the owner should take the entire staff aside for 30 seconds, inform them of the new "no singing policy" and then this wouldn't happen. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe your group should realize that no one cares about the singing, and the fact that you *do* care does not count as a good enough reason for them to take action. [/ QUOTE ] Maybe you should realize that singing was once allowed and now the owner doesn't allow it. The owner should therefor inform her entire staff of the change so they can do their jobs properly. |

Obviously this is a little harsh if this is a very recent change or she is a new employee, but then again, if I were the manager my entire staff would be well aware of the policy.
