were you expecting the question to be something like

a) to protect the seeds
b) to attract insects
c) because bananas are delicious

I think the question being posed as a "why" is actually pretty retarded, and demonstrates that the test writer doesn't really understand evolution.

Originally at the end, away from the stalk. Nowadays you can get seedless bananas iirc, through selective breeding.

All the fruit etc. we eat have been bred to be pretty different to their natural state.

Since it doesn't stop "finally" for a while after the 10 seconds defined in the problem, and it's obvious that it won't immediately stop hen it contacts the water at 10 seconds, you have to rule out 0, as well as the 1 or whatever other non-100 answer they have.

well defined is a well defined concept. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Well-defined thats what i mean when i use the word. "defined enough" doesn't make sense in this context. maybe thats why there was the confusion because there is no question that the problem is not well defined.

Yeah I figured the ones we eat were just bred without them, but even with lots of seedless fruits, I still see seeded versions (watermelon, grapes, etc).
