On a scale of 1-10, how terrible of an idea is it to always 3B pocket pairs, since I clearly have no idea how to extract when they hit and I'm not the PF raiser?

[/ QUOTE ]

depends on whose raisin! if its a light CO/btn opener i 3bet a lot, if its some nit i'd rather just call. implied odds are good with just a raise from a tight person - 3bets kinda kill that

If you start 3 betting every pocket pair you are going to run into a couple problems:

1) Your image is going to change as people start picking up on this strategy and as a result-
2) You are going to start bloating pots and putting yourself in tough situations when you don't hit a set but you feel like your hand may still be good.

Very bad. I don't mind 3betting 77+ but it's villain dependant; I love PPs v LAGs and fish in terms of not needing to hit a set to have value. Post some hands where you think you could've extracted more.

Been playing 25 NL for the past hour or so, playing quite well, incorporating some new things that up my aggression, but was only up about half a BI due to KK over AA and set of Js < spiked A turn for a set of Aces.

Then this hand[s] happened. Villain was very odd, raising / making weird bet sizes on random boards and such. Seemed like the type to tremendously overvalue TP because he splashed around so much with weaker hands.

Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.10/$0.25 Blinds - 6 Players - (LegoPoker HH Converter)

SB: $25.25
BB: $16.70
UTG: $24.75
MP: $38.00
CO: $54.25
Hero (BTN): $47.45

Preflop: Hero is dealt Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (6 Players)
UTG folds, MP calls $0.25, CO raises to $1.10, Hero raises to $3.75, 2 folds, MP calls $3.50, CO calls $2.65

Flop: ($11.60) K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] T[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (3 Players)
MP bets $0.25, CO raises to $6.00, Hero raises to $15.00, MP folds, CO calls $9.00

Turn: ($41.85) J[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] (2 Players)
CO bets all-in for $35.50, Hero calls all-in for $28.70
Uncalled bet of $6.80 returned to CO

River: ($99.25) T[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players - 2 All-In)

Pot Size: $99.25 ($3 Rake)

CO had Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] K[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (two pair, Kings and Jacks) and LOST (-$47.45)
Hero had Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] A[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] (a straight, Ace high) and WON (+$48.80)

Very next hand I got the rest of his stack to add insult to injury:

Full Tilt Poker - No Limit Hold'em Cash Game - $0.10/$0.25 Blinds - 6 Players - (LegoPoker HH Converter)

Flop: ($14.20) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 5[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 Players - 1 All-In)

Turn: ($14.20) K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players - 1 All-In)

River: ($14.20) 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (2 Players - 1 All-In)

Oh yeah.. I realize it's a terrible idea. More just bemoaning the fact that I have no idea what to do OOP when I call a raise and hit.
If I donk (which is probably the right play), they fold.
If I c/c, then bet turn, that looks really strong, as does a flop c/r.
But, I guess unless you're against an overpair, the majority of the time you're just going to be against unimproved overcards or missed mid-pairs, and not getting paid anyways.

What if it's multiway, and there's less chance of a C-Bet.
Hands are posted under obvious title.
