Hellmuth come back... This final table has lost it's loving feeling [/ QUOTE ] What was the bet he made with Ivey? The announcer just talked about how Hellmuth just paid Ivey but I missed it earlier |

Every all-in Phil had, he took big money insurance with ivey. except the last one when he was a big dog
All total, he somehow came 6th and lost $14K on this tourney. |

[ QUOTE ] Hellmuth come back... This final table has lost it's loving feeling [/ QUOTE ] What was the bet he made with Ivey? The announcer just talked about how Hellmuth just paid Ivey but I missed it earlier [/ QUOTE ] Every time he was all in, he would get insurance from Ivey, by betting against himself. So if he wins the hand, he loses money and if he loses the hand, he wins money. The point of this is to sacrifice some EV to reduce variance, but Phil bet so much that he ended up losing more from his "insurance" bets than he won for his 6th place finish in the tournament. |

Honestly, it kept stopping play and focusing attention on Phil and Ivey, and Phil H. knew it. He wasn't interested in reducing variance, he was interested in the spotlight. I bet Hellmuth took the worst of it everytime and Ivey was probably loving it.

How many times did Phil take insurance? I only heard the first two and I would think those cost Phil $10K each, since he said he could win $90K each time and he was a huge favorite.
The announcers said he handed Ivey a couple of $10K chips, which would account for the two I heard earlier. |

If Shak wins, will this be the first NL win for a woman in an open event at the WSOP? I know females have won bracelets in stud/razz PL holdem etc.

[ QUOTE ]
Phil Hellmuth Eliminated 6th ($76,464) Hellmuth raises to $120,000 and is called by Beth Shak. The flop comes Q106, and Shak moves all in, putting Hellmuth to a decision for all of his chips. Hellmuth makes the call and shows down A10, but is behind Shak's KQ. he next two cards brick out when they come 92 and Hellmulth is eliminated in 6th place. He ends up losing $109,000 to Ivey on the day , so even though he made $76,464 for sixth place he is down $32,536 on the night. [/ QUOTE ] |
