You know, when I started lurking here, I was probably a little better than a breakeven .50/1.00 player. Back when those games were a lot easier than they are today.
Without this site, I probably would have made a lot less money than I have, so I know that there is value in what happens here, but I wonder if I would have ever participated if it wasn't a free site when I started. I would guess that a fair value for what I have learned over the years, probably would be about $100/ month. Would I pay that much? No. Maybe $15-$20 a month but I would need pretty strong assurances from someone I really trusted to invest that much. |

Not that he's likely to ever see it here, but congrats to DS on his final table tonight. Event 24, Stud8...if there's a more frustrating variation of poker out there, I don't wanna know about it.
The question about what these forums are worth is moot, because if they ever started charging most of the posters would just jump ship to another, free forum. I suspect that's among the reasons they haven't tried. The thing I'd be most amazed about after waking up from a 1987 coma would probably be the thing that I'm most amazed about anyway--they make big screen versions of Charlie's Angels, The Dukes of Hazzard, and now even a live action Transformers flick, but still no A*Team movie?? As far as disappointed...the whole flying cars thing ranks up there, I guess, but primarily it'd still be the second Star Wars trilogy. I've got one of them fantasy poker freeroll thingies this afternoon on FTP. I've been awake since about 6 PM last night, and I don't plan on sleeping. I do plan on smoking before the tournament, and likely during. I also plan on downing the huge effing can of Jolt that I picked up this morning. This could get interesting. |

Now that amazes me, I haven't seen it for a long time, but maybe I just wasn't looking, now that I don't work in a computer lab on the second AND third shift, like I sometimes did in the 80s. |

But then one day a couple years ago when I was still driving the delivery van, I stopped at an unfamiliar 7-11 and lo and behold, there it was in the cooler. It now comes in pressurized 23.5 oz cans with twist-off tops, and is worth the cost just for the pop when you first open it (much better than tennis ball cannisters). I've since found it in several other convenience type stores. |

[/ QUOTE ] are you singing that song like daffy duck does in the looney tunes cartoons? i bought a lightweight travel trailer for myself and the family to cruise around the country enjoying the beautiful scenery. we made it about an hour and a half down the road to a local lake/park/campsite. about an hour after setting up the trailer, lowering the awning, getting everything plugged in, we decided it wasn't quite level enough. so i go to unhitch my SUV from the thing so i could lower the front a bit more and we almost rolled it down a hill into the forest. luckily it rolled back about 3 feet and inexplicably came to a stop. i may have broke my thumb in the process, but i'm not having to call the insurance company after one day explaining what happend. thank you lord. any good RV parks in vegas? I started reading Stoxtrader's book today. Here are some initial thoughts(through the first 100 pages on preflop/blind play).
The book is advanced, but players who are just learning SSHE can benefit well from it. This is mainly because it details hand ranges most of 2+2 would recommend but it also gives very good reasons, explanations and data for these. I honestly wish I had just picked this up right after stumbling across 2+2, and read it when I started reading SSHE and HEFAP. I think one of the best things it does is illustrate the constant struggle of balancing tradeoffs and making distinctions. (ie. You should be more inclined to raise tight blinds because of the FE and usually in steals you want hands with showdown equity but that's balanced somewhat by the fact that a 3-bet from them will often leave your Ax, Kx, and even paired hands possibly dominated). Stuff like this is what I bought this book for. It's a good point to begin using higher level thinking. A lot of the book is data mined from 3 players who play high/mid stakes and I kind of just glaze over the charts. Part of this is because I haven't touched online and don't think in stats as much anymore and partly because there's an enormous amount of data to go through. I do think this stuff will be valuable later on after I finish reading the book and I have specific questions about the values of hands in particular situations. Sifting through all of it and clearing the Stars bonus last month also makes me want to come back to online play, though I definitely need a solid Rback deal set for that. |

[/ QUOTE ] I'm not sure that it is more than coincidence, but the book answered a lot of questions that I was struggling with, and since I got it, and started working through it, I have been running real good, and I think that a lot of that is because I sorted out a lot more value in some marginal situations that I have been struggling with. As a side note, it's not the kind of stuff that I like sharing, because one of my friends that plays a lot lower, says that every time he talks strategy with me, he runs horribly, because he goes out and missapplies the things we talk about. [ QUOTE ] I honestly wish I had just picked this up right after stumbling across 2+2, and read it when I started reading SSHE and HEFAP. [/ QUOTE ] I suspect that at that time, the book wouldn't have done you any good. I know that it would have cost me a bunch of money, because I wouldn't have understood enough to use the information properly. |

Except that the trailer was the kind you put an suv on, and I was in the suv which was on the trailer when it started rolling. Fun times. Hope the thumb's alright. |
