Haven't read other responses. I was going to say AA until you just call the river. As played, I am going with AK with the Kd.

I posted this because I assumed my hand was obvious, but after the hand the guy asked if I had K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. Since he knew who I was that means that he reads this forum, and if he reads this forum, I assume he must be good, or at least not bad. It shocked me that he thought I had a flush.
I had AK without a diamond. I was folding the turn to a 3bet, as I figured (incorrectly) that my hand would be face up to villain once I raised the turn. I have AK, AA, KK, QQ and maybe JJ-TT here preflop. Once I pop the turn, I have AK or AA. That's it. If I have AK, I do not have a diamond, as (a) I have no interest in paying 3 bets to see the river and (b) I want the drooling idiot to fold a small diamond on the turn. I never have KK-QQ here. Playing KK-QQ this way would be very dumb. I think many of the responses here show a problem that many have playing mid limit live hold'em, and that is fancy-pants-itis. There is no need to do anything cute in these games. Play solid preflop hands and bet for value postflop. That's it. There is no big riddle here. Pound when you have it and fold when you don't and you'll make plenty of money. EDIT: he had AA obviously. |

[/ QUOTE ] james and I are co-winnars! time to grab a beer [/ QUOTE ] and like 5 other people, honestly im really surprised anyone said anything else besides AK AQ no diamond fwiw Pbob given player description i dont think theres anyway u could/should muck JJ here preflop and maybe not TT. and the fact people suck at reading hands is actually why its safer for u to fold to a turn 3bet. The fact most players see ur line here (check-raising the turn) as strength (almost always a flush on this board) rather than obviously protecting a hand that doesnt want to see another diamond makes ur line (cr and fold to a 3bet) much better than if u suspected ur opponent was sophistocated and WOULD know exactly what u have, since then ud have to fear he mite put in a 3bet with either AK no diamond to fold out a chop, or put in another bet with AK with a diamond that is essentially free-rolling and buying FE in a large pot. just my 2 cents |

Uh, yeah. Initially, I was going to write a treatsie about how bad this was without a diamond. But I think that you played in fine.
FWIW, I think that you play it the same with AKo, with the Kd, so it isn't like that was a terrible guess. NH. HF |
