The problem is the injury bug nails the guy just about every season. Also in the past he had a horrible habit of being a chucker who loved to bomb 3s but couldn't hit them.
The last season his 3 points per game attempts dropped to 4.4. They've been as high as 8.7 per game and for a career 32.4% 3 point shooter that is a problem. I understand his talent, but over the last 5 years he hasn't played more than 67 games in a season and played a low of 46 in 2004-2005. Honestly I was thrilled of what he did to Dallas b/c I hate them, I just think he is an immense talent that does a lot of stupid things and is too injury prone. His ft% is also pretty low for a guard although it's improved lately. He is a good leader and defender, but I think a lot of NBA game is staying healthy for most of the games of a season unless your Shaq. Consistancy is King. Baron is probally a top 5 talent at PG but he's never been a consistant top 5 PG for a mariad of reasons I mentioned earlier. |

I am convinced that offensively, positions are suited to the talents of the individuals on the court. Kidd plays the point, but usually posts up because of the size and strength differential between himself and his opponent. Bargnani plays C for the Raptors but is barely inside, CANNOT rebound, and parks his ass behind the 3-line like a SF.
Also going back to the college players, I thought Rafael Araujo was the answer to the Raptors center problem. |

I thought Palmer would flop too, though that probably had as much to do w/ the Bengals picking him than anything.
I'm a 'Cuse fan who appreciates McNabb more every year as the program continues to suck; but before him they had similar looking QB's w/ big arms who could run so I thought he'd be a bust coming out too. Honestly I don't even try to predict nba careers. Outside of the occasional slam dunk like Lebron it just seems like such a crapshoot to me. |

Assani- You said the following: "I've never seen a team in the history of the NBA that didn't reguarly play 2 guys that were interchangable on offense at the 2 and 3 spots." Apparently you've never seen a team play a "combo" guard at the 2 or a 3/4 tweener at the 3. My list of players was an attempt to show the absurdity of your statement. [/ QUOTE ] You ignored my word "regularly." Yes foul trouble and matchups cause teams to go big at times. I stand by my statement. [ QUOTE ] "Eric Snow and Steve Blake would guard the other team's smaller wing because they have more height than AI." Smaller wing? Even assuming you meant bigger from context, I thought there were three wing players? Snow would guard the 2 and Iverson the 1 most of the time, but neither would match up with the opposing 3 no matter what the circumstances. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I meant bigger. And you took my quote way out of context. What I was saying is that I was only talking about this from an offensive perspective(since we were always talking about offensive stats). [ QUOTE ] "Also, other than Carmelo Anthony can you please give me another example of a very good player who can only play the 3 and not the 2?" I already gave you two in Garnett and SAR, but Dirk played some 3 early in his career, Marion, Jamison, etc. I realize I didn't play DIVISION TWO BASKETBALL like your eminence, but are you seriously saying you've never seen a team play a big 3? [/ QUOTE ] Again you seem to just ignore what I say and put words in my mouth...I said ONLY. All of those guys you listed are primarily frontcourt players. They do not ONLY play the 3. In fact, the 3 is not their main position. Can you name one player that is listed as a SF and will be for the majority of teams in the league yet he can't play the 2 on offense? I think thats absurd if you think theres anyone like that. Yes I've seen a team play a big 3...and since the offensive responsibilities of the 2 and the 3 are the same, that guy could've also been playing the 2 that game on offense and you wouldn't have noticed the difference. [ QUOTE ] "But on offense I want to experiment with Carmelo at the SG and AI at the SF today" what impact do you think that would have on the game?" SFs generally do some post-up stuff and more inside stuff in general whiles SGs are traditionally more perimeter oriented, but again, we've already gone over how players offensive role is based on their personal skill set. [/ QUOTE ] You didn't answer my question. So what would happen? Would AI all of a sudden start posting up a ton and would Carmelo have to shoot a bunch of 3s? Or maybe like I'm suggesting would there be no difference whatsoever? |

Greg Ostertag 28th pick overall Played 7 years? I'd have taken the under at 7 minutes. Size matters. [/ QUOTE ] had he not donated his kidney to his sister or whatever he would've played longer. i watched a ton ton ton of jazz games when ostertag had serious minutes, and he was an enigma. some games he was dominant - yes, dominant - and some of that was because stockton just got him the ball everytime he had an easy score or he was playing another C that he could just deny on the defensive endeasily. other games you looked at him and thought... wtf, this guy was born 7feet tall and gets to make millions, life is unfair. he frustrated the hell out of sloan because of his inconsistantcy |

Assani- "All of those guys you listed are primarily frontcourt players. They do not ONLY play the 3. In fact, the 3 is not their main position. "
So when Minnesota was playing a Nestrovic/Smith/Garnett frontcourt, which one of them could play the 2? If the 3 is not Shareef Abdur-Rahim's main position, what is? If you'd like, I can list a ton of guys who have played the 2 who couldn't play the 3. You misspoke(several times), admit it and go on with your day. You're going to go down fighting on the claim no team has ever regularly played non-interchangeable players at the 2 and 3 when the Denver Nuggets play 2 such players right now? "Can you name one player that is listed as a SF and will be for the majority of teams in the league yet he can't play the 2 on offense?" No one changes their offensive style based on what position they play. What does "play the 2 on offense" even mean? On offense in basketball there is the point guard and then everyone else does whatever they are good at. |

I agree with assanni, he contintinually just owns everyone talking about NBA. that said, there ARE guys who can play the 3 andnot the 2, or play the 2 and not the 3. some guys that come to mind, even from my own beloved jazz, are AK (can play SF, is a lolorific SG) Dfish (fine having him as a 2 guard, but uhhh lolo SF?)
