If there were just one choice for a god, I'd agree with you, but given that we have thousands of different religions and the possibility that choosing the wrong one will just piss off the other, true god, I don't know what to think. I'm inclined to believe that the true god would react more favorably in the afterlife to someone who just didn't believe in anything than someone who actively believed in the false god (bastard!). therefore, we should hedge our bets by not believing in anything.

[/ QUOTE ]Actually I think the best way would be to put all the religions on a dartboard, blindfold yourself, and trust god to aim your dart at the right religion. Someone should do it and let me know the result. I'll convert with you. I trust that god would not let someone lie to me about such an important matter. |

[ QUOTE ] I say very very slightly more so, because in the very unlikely scenario where there is a god, and it actually does care whether we, as humans, believe that it exists or not (which I believe to be much more unlikely that it *DOES* care than it exists), it is very very slightly higher EV to believe there is a god. Also, it's 5:30 AM here, so my brain isn't really working. [/ QUOTE ] pascal's theorem ftw [/ QUOTE ] Pascal's Theorem: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal's_theorem You are talking about Pascal's wager http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pascal%27s_wager |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah I was wondering about that too. I looked up Pascal's Theorem and was wondering "WTF? What does that have to do with anything?" But yeah, definitely Pascal's Wager FTW. |
