Body do you play tourneys a lot?

That would be a pretty big buy-in tourney IMO for me to even think about playing, but I suck at tourneys too so maybe not

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, tourneys are what I've allways played, just started playing cash the last 6 months or so.

For a beginner; what is the big difference? Which switch do you think is easier, tourneys to cash or vice versa?

I'm not sure which switch is easier, but their both poker. A good cash player should be able to make the switch fairly easy and vice versa.

The thing about MTT's though is you have to be able to withstand the variance. It cracks me up when I hear people on here talking about extended downswings. Talk to somebody that's played a lot of MTT's about variance. That's part of why I started playing more cash games.

Early stages of tournaments are similar to cash because you usually start with 75-100 big blinds. Then as the tournament evolves you have to switch gears.

If you want to start getting into tournaments I would highly recommend the HoH series.

Cash players going to tourneys FU the fact the blinds are getting bigger all the time, the different stack sizes' play can be quite sophisticated and 'correct' in tourneys, and the raises don't need to be as big.

Tourney players going to cash just haven't got that much experience playing relatively deep all the time (assuming they buyin full). And many (but by no means all) profitable tourney players often has drummed into them to stay out of hands that aren't really good when you're deep. They will often not play pp or sc when it's +EV.

I'm terrible at tourneys, although I don't attribute my lack of success to not being able to make the transition skill wise. It's just that I'm like, "Wow, why the [censored] did I do this?" every time I play one. They're just stupid to me and I can't concentrate on playing like I "should" in a tourney.

I cashed in the first online MTT I've ever played yesterday - 66/208 in the FTP $30k Iron Man freeroll for $120. This increasing blinds stuff is for the birds, but I'll take a free buyin anyday.
