I obviously didn't look at the hand. But it's a common misconception that I see all the time here, that people try to make the players that are too tight losen up because they think they get more action on their good hands then. It's dumb. Steal their blinds until they are angry at you and losen up. Then change gears and punish them with a decent holding.

good points. i was playing hudless so i didnt have his stats in front of me. i suppose when im playing that way i should just bet bet bet instead of get all fancy on villians. too much WSOP for me.
i was having quite a few hands where villians were calling cbets and 2nd barrels to fold to the river valuebet. im glad they were donating to my cause, however im sure it was only a matter of time until they could catch some hand i dont see coming and slowplay stack me. |

Never try to play like they do on TV. The either play atrociously or they edited the show so that you don't know the history between the players and can't understand their plays. It's a recipe for desaster, really.
And if you raise a lot to steal their blinds, you shouldn't play "bet, bet, bet" postflop. Use your head. Look at the board textures more and try to find spots where you can take the pot down or where your mediocre hand is good etc. When you are playing a game that is aimed at stealing blinds, you are basically trying to avoid postflop play because you mostly don't have much of a hand. And when one of those who FOLD TOO MUCH decides to ACTUALLY PLAY A HAND, he usually has the goods. |

Variance or lack of skill?
![]() I began with $50 and beat NL5 and NL10 easily up to a BR of $600, then i moved up to NL25 where i have been breakeven after 40k hands (!). Is there really such a variance? Many people told me NL25 was one of the easiest limits.. i also have the same impression, but still i cant beat it. What articles/threads should i read regarding my "moving up" problem. I never changed my game that much, i'm still playing same as on NL10 .. i rather think i've improved a bit. *despair* |

i played 60k hands in 2 months on 25NL, ran good everything went ok, and then i basicly went through what he went through. Took beat after beat, and tilted some away, there are some bad plays between it, but not much. I had days i didnt stack anyone, and got hit by 2 outers or 4 outers all the time.. Its starting to get better now, I think im recovering a little bit.
I had some leaks in my game, but they werent really that big to cause the massive downswing. didnt help either that i took some crazy shots before that haha. |

Am I the only one here who find ftp to be TOTALLY rigged most days? [/ QUOTE ] LOL. i thought it was just me but that sklansky bux calcs are always so much higher than any other sites for the lst 3 months [though I played very little this month], I'm expecting some equity to hold up this month... Wow, the brew is on 12 pages and it's only 1 day in, i think we might have a part II this month... I might have another shot this month but remember to not get FPS fancy and have some tables of Nl50 open to remind me to play like I always do and not bluff/get tricky too much. Tickner's post is encouraging in that my tighty whitey style mght be o.k. - I didn't see much 3betting yesterday and had a 90/10 drooler @ teh table, I also think it was tick & pokey said to not change and get more tricky. I'm a very slow learner but I am going to actually convert and post a bunch a hands this month and actively try and get better/execute better.
