Assani, how do you feel about PER?

[/ QUOTE ]

he thinks it, along with championships won and quality of supporting cast are the most important things in rating how great a player is. Unless we're talking about Nash (low PER, no rings, great supporting cast) - then none of those things matter.

[/ QUOTE ]teamdonkey, you continually put words in my mouth. Rather than find the truth, it seems as if you just want to mock my thoughts. Its getting tiring.

JoA, I think that PER is one of the better stats, but like all stats it doesn't provide us with the whole story.

words in your mouth? Those are clearly the metrics you've used to argue Duncan's greatness in this thread: adjusted stats, championships, supporting cast. Now again the question i inferred in the last post, how do you reconcile the fact that Nash is lacking in all 3 yet you're his biggest supporter on this board?

TD, I'm done arguing with you. You clearly would rather go on tangent after tangent instead of actually discussing the issue at hand. What does Nash have anything to do with Duncan? Hell, maybe I'm completely wrong about Nash...that doesn't have a single thing to do with this debate!

I never brought up PER until someone else said "KG has better sabermetic stats than Duncan." Then you chime in with "Assani, how on earth can you use PER to argue for Duncan when you dismiss it regarding Nash??"

Thats complete BS! I've never been the first to bring up PER regarding either of them.

you've argued Duncan is great. the arguements don't work or Nash, but you think he is great to. explain. doing so may reveal why your arguements are flawed, or that Nash isn't great, or maybe define other important ways greatness can be measured that we could apply to the problem at hand.

wtf is so hard to understand about that?

donkey,

You're gaying up this thread big time. For whatever reason Assani finds it impossible to ignore guys who goad him into this crap. I don't know why going after Assani is the thing to do in SE. It's like Thayer is the frickin' Fonz or something.

Maybe I'm wrong about Nash. Maybe I'm wrong about Duncan. I've been wrong before, and I could be wrong here. But I refuse to let this turn into a Nash thread. I don't have time now, but pretty soon I'll try to make one long post summarizing my thoughts on Duncan...perhaps you could do the same.

QFT

Also, I don't see anything wrong with TD wishing for Assani to clarify his views since his thoughts on Duncan and Nash seem a bit hypocritical.

I think you guys are under-estimating an important aspect of this discussion. Character and determination is almost as important as ability. People like Kareem and Russell who have an uncanny ability to win, combined with the natural skills to dominate, should be considered ahead of the guys that had the skill, but didn't have the intangible ability to win.

Wilt played on great teams in LA, his teams in Philly were very good too. Boston did have more talent, and better coaching, but that was not in spite of Bill Russell. He was basically the coach on the floor, an extension of Red Aurbach. His affect on the game went way beyond the box score. He consistently dominated Wilt in the biggest moments of the biggest games.

KC -

Assani's habit of using arguements and cherry-picked stats when they suit his point of view and ignoring them when they don't is annoying. I'm calling him on it in this glaring example. If you think that's gaying up the thread, then i'm sorry.

All - Moses Malone needs more love in this thread. The guy definately belongs on any top 10 big man list.

Far too many people are arguing Duncan vs Garnett ect. These guys are barely top five if at all. I would rather see a list of top 5 or top 10 and why.
