I don't know anything about fashion at all. I'd like to start dressing better and with more style. Are there websites, magazines, books, etc. that i could read that would teach me a bit about fashion?

i don't wear short sleeve shirts that are button down - i have a bunch of them, but every time i put them on i think they look dumb. the pictured neil barret shirt looks sweet, but i have a feeling i'd have the same reaction. occassionally i'll wear one unbutttoned with a wifebeater and shorts but that's pretty rare.
if i have time later i'll take some pics of a few things. |

Are there websites, magazines, books, etc. that i could read that would teach me a bit about fashion? [/ QUOTE ] thesartorialist.com is one of the most known blogs around. A guy travels around the world (with NY as home) and photographs people on the street that dress well. You could also check out men.style.com and the articles (avoid the runway photos since that's often more 'art' than 'fashion'). Back to original topic: I'd avoid shorts as much as possible (looks horrible on 95% of men) and also short sleeve shirts (although the Neil Barret looks good above). I normally use a dress shirt were I roll up the sleeves instead. Usually looks better and you can vary how long you roll it up + you can use it with a blazer/suit. Anyone using a short sleeve shirt with a blazer should be shot. So, unless you're a kid, or look like a model and afford really fashionable shorts/shortsleeveshirts I'd go for pants+dress shirt. (choosing a light fabric it'll be almost as comfortable) |

lapoker17,
I doubt that you would have the same reaction with the Neil Barret shirt. I think I know what you mean and I am very picky when it comes to short sleeve shirts. They can easily make you look stupid, but that's generally not the case with the "high fashion ones". Kjell201, I couldn't agree more. Wear a short sleeve shirt with a blazer and you should be shot. DonkBluffer, There are plenty of good sites to check out online but it depends what you are looking for. Do you need nice clothes for work? Are you in college? What's your style? What's your budget? You could start with checking out the links in Kjell's post and if you are American, I can say with some confidence that you should drop a size or two and please stay away from oversized clothes. |

FWIW, I'm not American and I think that most Americans dress like [censored] and don't even know what fashion is all about (no offense, I'm sure some of you are in to fashion and are great dressers). Here is one from Neil Barret that I really like: [/ QUOTE ] I got a Hugo Boss shirt for $100 that looked just like this but instead of looking baller it just looked goofy as hell on me, mainly because I have to wear an undershirt since I have no tan. I think expensive T shirts (good material, design, usually like $30) and jeans are the way to go if you are trying to look decent but not overdressed. |
