Why did I have a dream where I went to someones house, and there was a big sign over the door saying ANACARDO on it?

1) do you think that being highly intelligent, attentive, and aware makes it tough for a guy to not be insecure? And by highly I mean more than 99.9% of the population, such that one would have a ridiculously large sensitivity and objectivity with respect to the flaws in everything, particularly one's own self
2) do you believe that people have an innate core whose tendencies and personality particularities are fixed, or do you think that one's "personality" and tendencies (for introversion or extroversion for example) can be transformed through social conditioning or self-help and self-work, or whatever means available |

Cardo, What are you mad about? [/ QUOTE ] I'm mad at the world for providing insufficently conclusive evidence as to whether I'm (within the context of my demographic, obv) unlucky or just a [censored]. I'm kinda miffed about my 80% pay cut. And, of course, every single day Dids walks the earth a free man, the knife cuts a little deeper. |

I'm not Emily Dickinson for Christ's sake. Anyway, this is one of many subjects that's almost impossible to analyze objectively, apart from one's own perspective. My [censored] LF Slim is of the definite opinion that confidence and perceptiveness are largely opposed characteristics. I'm generally inclined to agree, but perhaps they could be combined in recognizable form. 2) I do think that to a great extent people are, largely, who they are, and do not change. I do not think temperament/personality and character necessarily overlap. One can only be oneself, but there are better and worse versions available. |

Do you find it easier to respect others than to have respect for yourself?
I see the guy mowing lawns and I think that is honest work and I think he has good character to do that job. I often want to trade jobs with him. Do something simple and pure. I do a pretty humble job also (Store Clerk) but for some reason at times I struggle to respect myself for it. I mean I have moments where I think man I really have been toiling here and do I really have anything to show for it? I often feel humiliated by the way some of my customers treat me. Some people that know me well even insult me by saying things like “Are you still doing that?” I long for the respect of others but do I even respect myself? At the same time I know people that do the same job I do and I respect them. I know how hard it is and they seem to never complain about it. Why do we think less of ourselves than we do of others? I ask you this because you didn't like my first question and you seem to be struggling with this same theme. Not good enough for you but good enough for others. I could be wrong here. But it seems like if you could find a motivation to do something mediocre and common you have a chance at respecting yourself. I think all jobs are somewhat common and useless. We can change that by putting a special effort into everything we do. People notice that, unfortunately it is rare that people will express it. If you gain the respect of others there is a good chance 99% of them will never tell you. Respect yourself and others will respect you. Do you agree? I will just keep asking hard questions till you answer one. It is not like there is a wrong answer. I just want to see you try. |

Stuey,
Despite popular wisdom I see absolutely no factual connection between the following allegedly related topics: - Practice and proficiency - Confidence and attractiveness - Self-esteem and popularity - A positive attitude and success I try to get with the program, so to speak, but I have yet to be convinced that the modern cult of positivity and self-love are anything but bunkum. |
