I was 6' 3" 250 when I did my first marathon. I was on a sub 5 hour pace, but started cramping bad at the 22 mile mark. I was running the Dublin Marathon and they only had water on the course. Make sure you are able to take in Gatorade during the race to keep replacing electrolytes. Also, every couple of miles eat some Gu to maintain your energy level.
Wear good running shoes that have plenty of cushioning. This will lessen the pounding on your knees and hips. I started out with some cheap shoes and was suffering from hip pain, but good shoes reduced the pain. First aid tape over the nipples works better for me than bandaids. Bandaids can come loose when you start to sweat. Definitely lube up with vaseline between your thighs and any other area where you chafe. Don't wear a cotton t-shirt. Get a dri-fit running shirt(or something equvalent), and running shorts. Cotton soaks up sweat and will get heavy. When you are finished take an ice bath. It will suck when you first get in, but this will help you recover quicker, and you won't be as sore later. Good luck. |

Good luck with your marathon. This is in June right? It will be hot. I was 6'2" 210 when I ran the Richmond Marathon in 05 - I finished in 3:58. Beat: That was at least 40 pounds ago.
