[ QUOTE ]
I was flabbergasted that someone this dumb thought it'd be a good idea to call a radio trivia show. [/ QUOTE ] I've been in radio a long time. People who call for contests just call for the sake of calling, hoping they'll win w t-shirt, CD, or something. A morning show I did had this Christmas contest where listeners had to get these bingo-type cards. We would call out "A4" in the morning, and whoever called in identifying the prize on "A4" won. One prize was a year's supply of pet food - the winner didn't have a pet. Another was a spray-in truck bedliner - the winner didn't have a truck. We call these people prize wh***s. |

[ QUOTE ] i don't think anyone is more annoying than this man... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ak5Lr3qkW0 [/ QUOTE ] "I work in a bar." leads to "My IQ is somewhere between 190-210...Einstein had an IQ of 180-190. Charles Darwin is way down there in the toilet, at an IQ of like 135." llooll [/ QUOTE ] I have known some very intelligent people who work in a bar. I have known many people who would prate on with a pedantic, authoritative tone of affected intellect. If I were to draw a vehn diaghram of the two groups, there would be no overlap or interection. |

To me, if this person is as smart as he seems to be, working in a bar seems to be something of a waste. I'm not saying he's not smart, but if he is as smart as he claims, is working in a bar really the best decision?
Also, the statement "I'm closer to absolute truth than any man before me," automatically raises a red flag with me. |

[ QUOTE ]
I wouldn't have reacted strongly, were it not for the fact that claimed to be an aspiring playwright, and pretended to know a lot about literature. She hadn't read Goethe, or Brecht, and hadn't read very much Shakespeare either. [/ QUOTE ] Modern education? Or maybe she is a Jew? |

I think this has a lot to do with it. I dont know anythign about this guy, just saw this video for the first time... |

I honestly found the bar comment closely followed by the Einstein/Darwin comment funny. I just started looking around the internets at stuff about this guy, and it's an interesting story. I don't know....the "closer to the truth" and the Einstein/Darwin comments withing the first few minutes just kind of set a bad tone for that video, I guess. |

otb,
Surely you realize that different things make people happy. I know more than a couple really smart people who scrape by on teacher's salaries or other $40-50K kinds of jobs. Why? Because they want for nothing more than they have. Hell, one guy I know is a damned genius and he runs a small janitorial service and plays NTN trivia at bars several nights a week (and has like two beers all night, so that's not the allure). In his spare time he thinks up new card games. Your line of thinking in this matter is very "American" though. |

El D,
Can you tell us what triggered this thread? I've found myself thinking that many many times but I just seem to delete the memories from my brain every time (not saying I'm super smart, but at least I'm not dumb) |

As I said, I've known some pretty smart people who work in bar, but they weren't the ones "telling" you how smart they were. Generally they are people with little or no family support in education or any kind of self esteem. A few had screwed up early either having kids early or droping out of school. (Usually because they were supporting themselves)
I know exactly the type to which you are refering. Those who have an over-abundance of self esteem about their abilities with little to support the claim. [ QUOTE ] If he is as smart as he claims, is working in a bar really the best decision? [/ QUOTE ] Oviously not. And these people do belong in this thread. |
