Early in a 50$ live tournament. Good players all over, some a little bit too loose. Villain in this hand seems solid and good, but it's very early, and probably the first hand he has played.
10-handed, 100/200, stacks are 20.000 I raise the standard 700 UTG with JJ. Folds around to the BB, who calls. The flop is 9 [img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]6 [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. BB checks, I bet 1000, BB raises to 3000, I call. Turn 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img], check-check River brings the Q [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. Villain checks. Do I bet? If so, how much? Do you like my turncheck for potcontrol? |

Yeah, bet, but you aren't getting called anyway, so it doesn't matter. 4000 sounds right.

I like flop and turn, and on the river I agree with nath, 3750-4750 sounds good.

A read on villain would be pretty helpful. Was this at "Hula" btw? Nath What weaker hands do you see paying us off? |

Given that he would probably bet his Queen on the river, you can valuebet maybe for a lone 9...
I don't think you get called, first hand he played, raising on that flop he probably holds AK or something similar... |

Valuebet but I dont think your getting called either. Pocket tens or 8s are onlt things that call IMO.
I hate the turn check btw. |

Fiksdal: Read is give in OP originally. You have to read the post again. This was not at "Hula", this was in a private apartment.
Dazza: Why do you hate the turn check? I like to keep the pot at a descent size, so I can call a riverbet. |

I think a PP is more likely than a lone nine here, and might also get you a crying call.

I hate the turn check because you're giving him a chance to catch up. A check on the turn after a checkraise on flop usually indicates an attempted checkraise bluff with AK or a small pocket pair.
He also could have AQ here which if is the case you got unlucky but had you bet turn he surely would have folded. Also if he pushes river you cant call which a lot of good players would do sensing weakness with your check on turn |
