It's true, even if we keep getting ridiculously outdrawn, villains won't see that, they'll just see us being aggressive, yet not dragging pots. Therefore, we must be FOS. Which is probably a bad image for us, as we get played back at and/or called down thin much more, leading to more ugly beats, and so on...

OK, the player called "sethypooh21" who was playing on Stars last month is not you. Oh well...

Not that it matters, I think Stripsqueeze said once "proper SH play involves making a total ass of yourself once in a while".

Suggestion: be careful how quickly you categorise players as LAG. It may be old hat, but the hat still fits and its retro.

Hello there naphand. Wow, long time.

It's actually a different post than I made two years ago, since back then there was a chance I had no clue how to play. Now there is no such chance, so the big question is whether or not my overall approach to the game is appropriate.

[ QUOTE ]

how we play when running bad is a HUGE factor in our overall WR. I play great when getting good/fair cards, but a sustained run of poor cards and I can definitely see my game crumbling a little.

[/ QUOTE ]

This is me all over. I play significantly less well after any kind of sustained bad period, and my tolerance for "bad patches" is really low. Basically a breakeven month gets me very upset, and strangely I can handle losing a ton of bets much better than I can handle breaking even. It's the ambiguity I think.

My diagnosis after a few days off and some careful self-examination plus hand reviewing is this:

1) opposition is mildly better than it used to be
2) rake is higher than it used to be
3) my mindset is not a settled as it used to be
4) I've run pretty bad for a while

I can perhaps do something about (3) but it won't be easy; it will, however, be a good thing to do both for poker and life.

I've been playing $2/4 lately which is very good for (1) and (3) since the opposition is frankly bloody awful. It is nice to see top pair getting paid off for a change, which cheers me up.

[ QUOTE ]

Surely you can see when a players overplays his hand and gets lucky?

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, yes. The annoying thing about limit poker, though, is that very often the bastards aren't making a huge mistake to draw to five outers, provided I am going to pay off their river raise, which I find myself doing over and over again when I am running bad. "Surely he hasn't hit it this time?" The toughest thing for me is to distinguish accurately between people taking shots at me and people just flopping better than me, when I can't hit a flop for a month. I am certain everyone knows this feeling. Just taking your bad run in your stride is the real trick.

Guy.

[/ QUOTE ]That's disconcerting if I was playing at Stars last month, though that would have been a neat trick with the $0 in my account...

I make an ass out of myself with great frequency, so I must be playing great...

Yes indeed, def. +EV to be table [censored], if you know how to manage it...

Let me assure you, you were playing last month, its in my PT DB. Has someone hijacked your account?

I was kinda wondering if you would come back with a post saying "I've checked all the hands I played at Stars last month and cannot find...yaddah yaddah"

I was planning to simply reply "You've been Tango'd" but somehow I feel better that you are smart enough to not worry about what you might have done.

Do checkthat account tho, if I see you again I'll be sure to drop some cryptic hint.

The trick is not to care if they are taking shots at you, but devise a strategy that can cope with it.
