At 42 years of age, it's hard for me to digest that I can still get as affected as I have been by a sporting loss (i.e. India's ouster). Particularly given that I didn't give a damn about cricket until 2003. The last time I was this crushed about a sports result was when the Minnesota North Stars stopped the Montreal Canadiens' drive for 5 in 1980....of course, I was a just a 15 year old hockey nut then.
The worst part is that I bought the whole World Cup package and I will be tormented even more with the games on the tube without India in it. I gotta call Bell Expressvu and tell them to activate the parental controls or something on the cricket channels |

I know people like shocks etc, but India getting knocked out is really bad for the competition to me. Such a high-powered batting line up and such wide support.
Damn Jaques Kallis. How on earth have successive SA captains and coaches let him getting away with such selfish batting for so long? It's like he never even considers the match situation and just bats away, nudging here and there and hardly taking any risks at all. His stats tell the tale of a truely great all-rounder, but that's far from the truth. He should be great, but great players win you matches and don't just play for themselves. |

South Africa definitely managed to make that match interesting. Must have been a slight roller coaster of emotion for Sri Lanka. Need to find some highlights.

Watching my first game of the tournament tonight. The timing is horrible for New Zealand, 1.30am start times. But no class tomorrow so I'm loading up on energy drinks and playing MTT's against europeans in their afternoon.
Very happy with the way NZ bowled against the windies, we scuttled them for < 180. The West Indies batsmen were far from impressive though. I'll be interested to see how our top order fares, its been decimated by injury. Oh, and that SA vs Sri Lanka match was insane, I love games like that. |

Malinga's 4 wickets in 4 balls is, I believe, a first in ODIs and not just a first in World Cup history.
Has anyone pulled off the feat in test cricket? I recall that Chaminda Vaas of Sri Lanka, in the 2003 World cup, had 4 wickets in the first over of the Bangladesh innings. The over went something like this: W W W 4 0 W. The Bangles were 4 for 4 after 6 balls....lol. I think they got bundled out for about 35 runs or so and Sri Lanka reached the target in about 5 overs. The whole match was over in about 90 minutes. Who said that cricket takes all day to play? |
