Default IPods/ITunes and a reformatted HD

Short version - Needed to reformat my HD for the 2nd time (screw Dell). Last time I tried to synch my IPod to ITunes and ended up having to reformat the IPod and reload all of my CDs, then synch.

Is there a way to upload the tunes I already have stored on the Ipod to ITunes or am I screwed again?

Is there a different application (Real Player?) that could accomplish the same thing?

Dock your ipod with a pc. Then go to my computer, you should see the ipods name listed as a storage device. You can then navigate the folders and copy off your music.

Nope. Music files not visible, just three generic txt folders.

Make sure you are viewing hidden files and folders, they should be there, just pulled a few off of my ipod to test this. The file names were wacky though but the tagging and everything else was fine.

You can also burn a backup copy using the itunes backup menu item. Allows you to burn your whole library to CD or DVD.
