[ QUOTE ]
Wal Mart is disgusting. They treat their workers like cattle, pay them awful wages, they are a drain on most local economies, they sell low quality products, or cut the amount of active ingredient in higher quality products

[/ QUOTE ]

The bolded stuff is either irrelevant or false. They pay their employees what they're worth if the employees thought they could do better there are plenty of other jobs out there. How they treat their employees is irrelevant, if they don't like it they'll find other jobs.

They sell name brand products considerably cheaper than other places almost all the time and unless they are diluting products without changing the labels, you're wrong about this also.

True, I did make a mistake by forgetting to cancel, but there use to be a time in customer service when companies considered situations and made decisions accordingly. Technically, it's a valid fee that is being paid, agreed. I just would have liked an exception since I never used the account, except the first day. If I had been using it for the three months, and then forgot to cancel I would be less irritated with the charge. I had one log in on day one. And it's my decision that I will not be providing AOL with any future business as a result.

Comcast and Linksys are awful.

I also hate Wal-Mart, but mostly because the store is 12 square miles and they NEVER have a [censored] thing I want.

Hey let's get some X-Files movies. No.
How about the new Califone cd? No.
Black wood stain? No.
Liteminder? Stopped carrying it sorry.
How abou- STOP [censored] ASKING US WE DON'T HAVE IT OK? Even their magazine selection sucks.

It's not irrelevant to me how they treat their employees. If they treat them like [censored], then they don't get my business. I try to be an educated consumer(main word being try) and I will avoid places that treat their employees like wal-mart does.

Shaws Supermarket: Super overpriced; got to express lane with 10 items, was expecting it to be $13, turned out it was $18 since I didn't have their "rewards card". It is snowing in Mass. today and huge lines behind me. Not going to spend 5 minutes signing up for a stupid card.

[/ QUOTE ]

At Safeway each cashier has a rewards card that they use for people like me who don't have one and just say 'I left it at home and don't like giving my phone number in public' and I'll bet that your market does the same. Next time tell the cashier to use the card she keeps in the drawer.

I also despise their "too cool" marketing tactics...I would be embarassed to work there.

[/ QUOTE ]

I once had a lady start asking me questions while shopping in an A&F. I think I knew the first answer or two, but when I didn't know one answer, she said something about me working there. I dunno if I had "that" look or whatever, but I was wearing a t-shirt that said "Old Navy". Go figure.

Dow/Union Carbide

"Union Carbide, now a Dow chemical company, was responsible for releasing 27 tons of deadly gases in Bhopal in 1984, killing thousands of people and leaving 150,000 severly disabled in what is referred to as the worst industrial disaster on record. Victims continue to suffer from insufficient treatment as Dow refuses to disclose all medical information on the toxic effects of the chemicals released in the incident."

be sure to take a look at this hilarious hijink

(click watch broadcast on the right)
Sad thing, even though I hate this company, I make no effort to avoid products they're involved with because I'm slack.

The problem though is that the other big box mass merchandise retailers treat their employees worse than walmart alot of the time from what I have read at http://www.retailworker.com

When it comes to big boxers Target treats their workers much worse than Walmart but they are so much smaller they haven't got the publicity about it yet.

[ QUOTE ]
They really have some f'ed up practices though. They put a lot of pressure on other businesses due to their market dominance. Vlasic for example. They pressure Vlassic into producing 1-gallon jars of pickles instead of the smaller variety, and it costs vlassic big time. =link

Also, they aren't cheap about everything. Just some stuff. My dad, who's doing some physical therapy stuff, needed one of those exercise balls. $10 cheaper at Sears than at Walmart. Walmart blows ass.

[/ QUOTE ]

If anyone is can't decide whether to like or not like walmart, read the first part of the article linked (in fastcompany) about Vlasic.

The article has all the makings of a ridiculously flawed take-down of walmart.

1. it assumes that there's some benefit to consumers when companies do not compete
2. it blames walmart for a bad decision that one of its suppliers willingly and freely makes
3. it leads the reader to believe that somehow vlasic went bankrupt because of walmart (that seems to be the point of the story) but then it admits that the gallon pickle jar wasn't critical.

Seriously, this article is hideously bad. If you read this and become anti-wal mart you are an idiot. Really.
