It was either on here or RGP, a good while back, there was a story about a HUGE laydown he made against Layne Flack online. I was really impressed. How the heck do you lay anything down to Layne?
I wish I could remember the details of that story. Not sure if it's true or not. |

This thread must die. It has become boring. Phil Helmuth bashing is best done when a specific and preferably recent act/action/play/remark/pic/promotion, etc., etc., is the subject of the bashing. Generalized bashings have been done to the point of total inanity.

Phil lays down anything except AA, KK or AK to massive action. |

It might not be that exactly, but it was a situation where Hellmuth was either splitting, losing to quads, or beating a pure bluff. |

This story is all you need to know about Phil Hellmuth (emphasis mine):
[ QUOTE ] It is now announced that they will break my table, and I'm dealt Q-Q under the gun. I make it $1,800 to go, and now I'm freaking out thinking I'm going to lose this pot to K-K. Everyone folds to the big blind, who is the guy who beat me with Q-9 earlier in the day. He moves all in for my whole $18,000. Finally, I fold my hand faceup, and he shows me A-K. The very next hand, at a different table now, I'm still talking about throwing away pocket queens when I pick up pocket queens again and open for $1,800. Incredibly, the big blind moves me all in! This time, I feel that my opponent has J-J or worse, but I still fold my hand faceup. The big blind shows 7-7. I don't mind this at all. After all, I could have gone out if he hit a 7. Besides that, who in WSOP history will ever lay down Q-Q in back-to-back hands for a single reraise? [/ QUOTE ] He's more proud of being weak-tight than of going with his reads and getting his money in as a 4 to 1 favorite. p.s. I think this thread his hilarious; I just wanted an excuse to post this again. |

This post is horrible, if you guys really think that Phil Helmuth is bad at poker, you obviously don't have a real understanding for the game. He will undoubtedly go down as one of the best poker players the game has ever seen and although he doesn't have a gunslingers mantality similar to a Stu Ungar of Gus Hansen, his tight-aggressive (not weak!) style of play is very effective at wading through large tournament fields. His postflop play is extraordinary and ultimately this is the most important factor in NL tournament style. Yes, he's an ashole, but he is one of the best ashole's to ever play the game! |
