Default Dealers

I've been dealing for about 6 months now, a 1/2 nl game with a $3 rake, and I only average about an $80 rake an hour. The other dealer has a few years more experience then me, but he's averaging pretty near $100 an hour. I got my training from criticism at the table during my first couple months, and by watching the other dealer.

I guess my question is are there any resources out there for dealers? Books, websites, videos? Any help at all would be appreciated.

You could try reading Mason's The Professional Poker Dealer's Handbook.

Experience in action is much more effective than observation, give yourself a bit more time in the box to develop.

Its about doing things efficiently, dont pause between games/hands to do cursory things like get chips, make change...be aware of those things and do them during the game.

As the dealer, you are not there to socialize, dont BS with the players any more than you need to run the game well.

Do you get a piece of the rake? Why would you care how much you're dropping?

Presumably a higher rake means more hands and more hands means more tips. There's also a certain satisfaction in being good at what you do.

This sure sounds like he is dealing in a private club where he gets the piece of the rake. The club I worked at many years ago the dealers got 25% of their rake and the floor got 10% of the total rake.
