Sands of Iwo Jima: IMDB: 1949:

I've been looking for this movie for a while and yesterday I just happened to find it as I was grocery shopping last night (wal-mart, it's the closest thing to post) I just finished watching it and I am surprised on many levels. There was more to the stories than I thought. I always thought it was just a war and combat movie, but there is more to it than that. Secondly, something about John Wayne's character. So not to spoil: <font color="white"> I didn't realize he died. I only thought he had died in "The Cowboys", as I was told the only movie he died in. </font> It was a really good movie. I enjoyed the splicing of real life footage in there as well. I'd recommend it. This is keeping my John Wayne collection growing.

Plot: Marine sergeant John Stryker seems a martinet and a bully as he trains young Marines for combat in the Pacific war. In the end, as survival in the bloody battle of Iwo Jima depends on the lessons Stryker has drilled into them, his troops discover why he was so hard on them
