How [censored] hard would it have been to make Jack act more rational? They can't be answering all the questions, but at least have him ask. I'm sure they could have thought of some believable way that involved not telling him.
Also, several more major nuisances, most of them involving Jack: - 'We had an excellent surgeon. His name was Ethan.' ha HA! There! I bet you feel guilty now don't you! Err.. he was shot by the guy who he hung from a tree by his neck and left for dead. I'd bring that up for sure. Ben is basically forced to give an answer there. - The overeagerness when getting the tattoo. And then the reaction by the villagers. Whatever the story behind that is, it's bound to suck balls. - Kate and Sawyer. I don't really see this love story going anywhere. I didn't think that through, but now Sawyer's character becomes a lot less interesting. He's gonna pretend to be a badass and then finally, to Kate's surprise, tr to convince her he really loves her. During all that this uninteresting emotional crap is going to take valuable time off my Lost episodes. I wish they could at least just be a couple and move on, and explore some more interesting character twists that don't involve love. - Jack and Tom. Tom seemed to open up a bit, introduced himself, showed his human side during the operation etc. If I were Jack I'd take every opportunity to become more friendly with those people. If you think they aren't being honest, you can always keep that in the back of your head, knowing that you'll give them a dose of their own medicine and 'trick' them into treating you better. But of course what does Jack do? Not acknowledge him and show him the nasty tumor on purpose. If I were held captive, I would take every opportunity that I got to interact with them on a more equal basis. It's a lot easier to treat someone like [censored] if he acts the way Jack does. - Why on Earth didn't Jack talk to Cindy more? I understand how he might get pissed at the mentioning of Ana Lucia, as they = basically Others now and Others = basically responsible for her death. But still, WTF WTF WTF. Makes me want to reach into my screen and punch people. |

[ QUOTE ]
This was mentioned earlier somewhere, but to me the biggest question I have is why the sheriff lady kept talking about Chinese tats when they were done in Thailand by the Thai chick. Seems weird, like it shouldn't be a mistake because they had already talked about Jack being in Thailand (with Sawyer when they played poker), but they absolutely didn't explain it at all. My best guess here is that it's just a random thing they threw in to make people like me ask WTF. [/ QUOTE ] I thought the same thing. A co-worker told me yesterday that Chinese culture dominates Eastern Asia (minus Japan). I have no idea if that is true or not, but if it is that could be an explanantion. If that is the reason though it's totally lame. Hopefully the Lost writers have something else up there sleeve with that one. |

That's an interesting idea. Here is the Scientology Cross:
![]() Her mark could be that cross upside down, but in her branding all of the arms/rays at the bottom of the mark look equal length the Scientology cross they aren't. Apparantly L. Ron Hubbard designed this symbol and it resembles the Rose Cross which was a teaching symbol for an 18th century magical society. What the Scientology cross means: [ QUOTE ] The Scientology cross has four arms and four rays emanating at their intersection; these represent, according to the official explanation the "eight dynamics" or "parts of life" in Scientology's basic theology: 1) The Self 2) Creativity, sex, and procreation (family) 3) Group, society, community 4) Species survival (humankind) 5) Life forms in general 6) Matter 7) Spirit 8) Infinity or Supreme being The horizontal beam of the symbol represents material existence, the vertical represents the spirit, a concept directly borrowed from Rosicrucian symbolism. [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] There's no such thing as "going out on top" in tv. [/ QUOTE ] I don't know about that. Six Feet Under comes to mind. [/ QUOTE ] Ok, network tv? [/ QUOTE ] Fair enough. I can't think of a single network drama that qualifies. [/ QUOTE ] About half way into the first season on DVD, I was thinking about how great the show was. It was at that point I had the realization that it was going to be dragged out for as many years as they could. Too bad I was already hooked. As long as it's making more money than the shows they could replace it with, it'll remain on TV. Maybe that's why there was all the fud about how many seasons the story was a while ago. I think they wanted an estimate at how long the show could remain popular. Sucks for the viewer, but it's good business as the network sees it. I still enjoy the show, but it feels like they are holding back information in an unnatural manner, and it would still be a great show if they just kept the story moving. How Jack reacts to seeing someone else from the flight is a prime example. |

Edit: and just to add a little content so I don't get marked myself, when I was searching for the pic, I stumbled across a posting on another website indicating that the the mark on her back is an upside down scientology cross. [/ QUOTE ] LMAO, I'm now officially rooting for the explanation that the Others are Scientologists. That would be sweet. I still love the show, but I'll finally admit I agree with a lot of the thoughts in this thread. Jack's lack of ability to ask the simplest/most obvious questions is killing me. And the tattoo backstory didn't even provide any character development at all. Meh episode. |

just watched it finally. luckily i was drinking or i would have been more bored. it really bothers me how many questions i have about this season that have gone unanswered. but this could be due to me not paying enough attention because nothing exciting has happened.
what was the stewardess doing with the others? |

Alright so in last nights episode when Bai Ling kisses Jack and he says that she tastes salty did anyone immediatly think she was a hooker who was snowballing jack with some other guy's [censored]? [/ QUOTE ] In that beach scene when she comes over to fix that kite, the first thing that came to my mind was "lolz hookaments". When she got into his bed, I had to think "lolz vdments". |

Those are his real-life tatoos. I'm sure the writers would have had a difficult time incorporating their true meaning into the show. [/ QUOTE ] So they put make up on his arm for that tatoo parlour scene? I was unsure if that was a real tatoo. But I wasn't into googling for pictures of that actor showing off his arms. |

[ QUOTE ] I don't get why people raved about last week but hated tonight. I don't see that much of a difference, they were equally lame. If anything, tonight advanced the plot more than last week. [/ QUOTE ] that was odd about last week. Everyone loved last week, yet the biggest complaint about Lost is that the mysteries are never revealed. All last week did was...add another layer of mystery. [/ QUOTE ]You guys are expecting too much. The show always moved this slowly. Didn't we first see the hatch midway through season 1? And then on the very last episode of season 1, what do we learn about the hatch? We learn that they get inside it and we are left hanging about any addittional info until next season. JMHO but if you guys start watching Lost more for the enjoyment and less to just "solve the mystery" it becomes a lot better. My enjoyment of an episode has nearly nothing to do with "what I learned" and has everything to do with how much I cared about the storyline of that episode. I didn't like this past episode because I thought the flashback was rather weak and the drama on the island was rather predictable and uneventful. However, I have no problems with the lack of answers given. Hell, let the show go 50 years as long as it continues to write good stories. |
