live hand, trying to punish limpers

Not sure whether this was a big mistake or a good play. Its from my head so all details may not be correct.

$70 rebuy, blinds 150-300,

rebuy period just ended 15 minutes ago,

Button is a solid player with good experiance, table has a lot of people seeing the flop often, 3 out of ten were very weak and one was a maniac. I was probably viewed as a tight agressive player

Stack sizes are all around 5000 with one player a little bit short and one player with about 8000

I have 4400 in UTG+1, dealt pocket 6's

UTG limps, I limp, and 2 players limp behind, solid button player makes it 1200 total, folded to me, I go all in,

folded round to LP player who thinks and stares me down for about 3 minutes, very nearly folds, and then calls at the last second
................

My thoughts were I definitely needed some chips at the time, players behind me would have been clever enough to have folded a limped hand against a raise and a reraise

When i actually limped, I had a strong feeling that the button would raise any two cards above a 10 if enough people had limped. Plan was always to push against his raise. He was a strong enough player pick these spots very well

The problem with the play is the depth of the stacks i.e. nobody can make a raise without getting a large slice of their stack into the pot and therefore you will get called with hands which are quite moderate, but in any event better than yours.

The button needs to double up as much as you and therefore he will call with any hand he thinks has some chance of being a 50:50 shot. Given the reluctant call I have him on a low to mid pair up to TT or 2 big cards but not AK so AQ AJ AT KQ QJ or even JT.

I like the limp reraise as a play but unless you are doing it with a premium hand the target must be able to throw away a hand and it should'nt be for all your chips. In this instance I think it is a case of right move wrong time.

I would assume button had a 88-QQ or AJ-AK.

What do you think he thought you had? Maybe about what you had.

Yeah I think I felt that because I was viewed as a fairly tight player (had only showed down strong pocket pairs, steal attempts had worked without having to show a hand), that he would put me on a high PP. JJ-AA

I figured him on many hands including 910s j10s,jq,jk,aj,aq,ak and possibly a better pocket pair. So I felt I had a fairly good shot at a race if he happened to have a strong hand.

even after he had invested 1200 I thought he was probably still capable of making a lay down as his stack was still big enough to do so.

overlimp shoving generally gets you looked up, if you had open limped I like it a lot more, even though I hate the limp RR without an exact read and as hard as you try to make it sound specific. The read you have is very weak about his range of hands raising that many limpers, I think it's much tighter than you suggest since he sounds like he's the best player at the table

thanks for the reply mate, i think you are right that at the end of the day his range better than I gave him credit,

could you explain why you prefer the open limp more?
