Minnesota has more shoreline than California, Florida, and Hawaii combined.

[/ QUOTE ]

i don't care if there really are 10,000 lakes in Minnesota, this can't be true.

[/ QUOTE ]

plus what qualifies as "shore"? any land touching any water? bogus.

hm, i guess the definition is: the land along the edge of a sea, lake, broad river, etc.

How about this? It's actually something more like 15,000 lakes.

And supposedley Wisconsin has more lakes than Minnesota. I tried to find out hte answer once, but the Wisconsin DNR was not helpful. It comes down to the size definition of a lake. Wikipedia claims 11,842 lakes over 10 acres in MN.

EDIT: Wikipedia also claims Alaska is the only state with more lakes

Maybe you're thinking of the word "coast" instead of "shore"? I haven't looked up the exact definition of "coast," but I associate that more with oceans and not lakes, while shore seems fair to use for both (as well as rivers, which Minnesota also has a fair amount of).

Wisconsin does have a [censored]-ton of lakes, too. It seems reasonable that Alaska would have a ton, too.
